Hi Everyone,

As the title states, I'm having intermittent keyless entry problems.
It seems to only happens after driving and not when first getting into the car.
I have two transponder keys and it doesn't seem to make a difference when using either key.

I have never had to unlock the car using the key.. often i have to lock the car using the key.

I wouldn't think it'd be the battery, being that It happens to both transponders and only upon locking the vehicle..
However, I guess it's worth a try to replace one of the transponders batteries and seeing if it makes any difference.

I'm thinking it maybe a relay not turning off or something similar.

it must be contagious?
my apologies.

It'd be interesting to know what sort of transmission the transponder uses to lock/unlock the vehicle and where the receiver is located.

According to the workshop manual the keyless entry module is located behind the glovebox and has an 18 pin connector with 3 empty pins.

From memory the key send a radio frequency to lock/unlock the doors and a micro-chip in the key head (read by an antenna around the ign lock) for the immobiliser.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

I opened my key n found that some of the circuit board is worn where the battery terminals touch creating a bad connection... I fiddled with it by just slightly sliding it n it seems to work... Put the casing back together n it doesnt work...

Hi Walker,

When i first bought my car, the lady that owned it before me had worn a hole through the little rubber button with her nails,

and a result, all sorts of crud (dirt, gooey human slime etc.) was causing the button to 'short out' and would be very indicisive on letting me lock/unlock my car haha

If you pull apart the remote and get a soft toothbrush and give the circut board a good clean, it may resolve your issue.

I guess maybe, even if the buttons aren't worn, they may be a possibly of crap still getting in there.

Hope this helps!

Funny cuz I'm having similar problems aswell.

First Thing in the morning. The car won't lock or unlock. So I have to use the key to unlock the door. Then of course the alarm gives off. But once started the car will lock and unlock no problems. Just first thing in the morning

Change to new battery then bend the tabs for better connection. If it doesn't do it in the morning tap the whole key to move the battery for better connection...

Mine's been doing this in the last couple of weeks too, seemed to only happen after driving somewhere. Unlocked fine, upon arriving it wouldn't lock properly.

Yes! This is exactly what happens to me :(
Though it will be fine for a month and then do it for a week or two..

I think it must be to do with something like a relay so your not able to lock until its turned off, as if maybe it still thinks your key is in the ignition?

I had the exact same issue with my car. I thought it had to be the cold hence the first thing in the morning. So i waited till it was working fine then chucked my keys into the freezer for about 20 minutes took them out and the car refused to unlock. So i concluded its gotta be the cold weather, i took it to a key place and they said the cold often saps the life out of your key battery if it is not fully loaded. so we replaced the battery in the key with a brand new one and i havent had any problems even when there is ice on my window. one key place tested the battery b4 it got changed and said it was fine, the other said they had no idea and recommended a brand new battery for the key....so i recommend you get a brand new battery. worked for me

I suspected it has to do with something internal in the car (damn :() seeing 14v from the car running, somehow upsetting the suspect part.

Yeah totally, process of elimination if it still does it after you replaced the battery then you can defo rule it out as a battery issue. I think its like 15 bucks to get a new one replaced at key cutting place. Cheap way to eliminate one of the possibilities if it dosent solve the issue.
