A lot of people don't know how to look after their cars, and some don't even care.
My Ex-Girlfriend is actually a prime example of this. i told her several times to get her transmission looked at, as it was changing into second really rough and making some weird noises. sure enough she just shrugged it off.
A month after we broke up i get a message "my car is in getting the transmission rebuilt. you were right"

That sounds like a good excuse for the mechanics to go have a hoon.Road testing of the brakes is mandatory.
And then she took you back for some make-up sex?A month after we broke up i get a message "my car is in getting the transmission rebuilt. you were right"

LOL.... Should do the test properly. Some just knock the tester on the desk
Walts - I guess if the mechanic was irresponsible they could, however if Dad caught one of his guys thrashing a customer car they would be grilled for it... you never know who would be watching.. only takes one person to go back to the owner and say "I seen your car doing skids and speeding" to give a business a bad reputation.

RTA (whatever they call themselves now) outlines a location that a mechanic can use for testing, as in they say "use this street".. the test is from about 40km/h to a stop

I had no idea they actually road test the brakes. I think a lot of places just knock the tester off the table as Adam mentioned and print off the sheet....
