I thought I'd spend a little time this morning to give some details about our Liberty. This is our second car, but as we both work, it does get driven almost every day. So you could almost call it a daily driver.....almost

This is pretty much how he bought the car back in August 2006 except for the smoked side indicators, i added them shortly after. Stock standard with 40,000 km on the clock and clean as a whistle.

Before i had a chance to do anything besides the smoked side indicators to the car Newcastle was hit with a massive hail storm in November 2006. While i was stuck at work, the car was parked in our driveway at home. Lee was just about to go out to grab some groceries and it hit, without warning. Hail stones the size of cricket balls (they were seriously that big). She rang me at work in tears and told me how the car was hammered. Luckily no glass was broken.... i say luckily because my mate lived close by and had both his front and rear windscreens smashed, our perspex skylight in our living room had a ball of ice smash through it like it was made of paper.

Insurance covered the damage after paying the excess, but we had to wait till May 2007 as everywhere was booked out, and as we were working, we didn't get to the panel shop untill a few days after the event (obviously everyone else got in before us).

The car got a new bonnet, new boot, new wing and a new roof. I paid the extra to get the bumpers, mirrors, door handles and the trim resprayed at the same time to save a colour match mess up.

After we got the car back to original condition, I started to save up to do some minor modifications to the car. Everything was going well and i had started tuning the ECU. Then in August 2007 the car was hit in a car park at the local shopping centre. The other car hit the drivers side front fender which in turn ruined the front bumper as it broke one of the mounting points. We were both very disappointed but saw this as an opportunity to get the front bar that we liked at a much cheaper cost. Insurance agreed to cover the cost of buying, painting and fitting a standard bar so all we had to do was pay the difference plus postage.....WIN.

Finally in May 2008 we got the exhaust made and we were, with lack of a better word, stoked with the outcome. After reseting the ECU we saw a gain of 29kw from my open source logging/tuning software and it felt like it too.

The next modifications the car will be undertaking are FMIC, front lower arm bar (H brace) and, depending on the pipe work for the intercooler, an in gaurd pod filter. If i can keep the standard air box I will have an Apexi power intake kit to suit a liberty B4 for sale soon. Hopefully the FMIC and Lower arm bar will be hooked up between now and next fortnight.

Engine
  • HKS SSQ BOV
  • High pressure radiator cap
  • Removed Resonator
  • DIY CAI
  • Removed front air guide
  • Custom turbo back 3" exhasut
  • HKS Silent High Power muffler
  • Hyperflow 4 port oil catch can (not connected yet, just sitting in their)
  • Silicon Short intake pipe
  • DIY Broken/fixed Intake track (this is why the oil catch can is not connected yet)
  • DIY Custom Tuned ECU Via open Source tuning software

Suspension
  • Greddy strut tower bar (runs behind TMIC)
  • nothing else yet...lol

Exterior
  • Smoked side indicators
  • Painted brake calipers (Black)
  • Gialla Corsa Type RR Front Bumper

Interior
  • Greddy Intelligent Infometer
  • No Name Pedals (unsure what brand they are)

Future Mods
  • DIY modified front grill to match the front bar
  • Front and rear sway bars
  • stronger bushes
  • parallel fuel rails
  • Rising rate FPR
  • New discs
  • New intake track (ours is broken)
  • When ^^ happens hook up the oil catch can

Anyway, thats the history of our B4.

Big thanks go to:

  • Kosti for helping with the ECU and getting the OCC
  • Phat (michael) for getting us the Gialla front bar
  • Soop for the advice on the FMIC
  • Jovan for the grill about to get modified and installed

Awesome car mate. There's a bloke in Canberra looking for a B4 to make a prototype SS induction, all the way to the turbo's. Basically replacing the black plastic pipe work. The same guy can probably fabricate the FMIC pipe work. The guys name is Mick. If your keen give him a bell: 0418 837 055 Very nice bloke. When you look at the suspension, would you consider coil overs?

Thanx for the comments.

The pipe work is going to be done by NMS at Bennits Green. They did my exhaust and are also vrey keen liberty Enthusiasts. One of the guys there has a Gen2 GTB and another had, untill very recently, a B4. I was goin to get them to do the intake at the same time, but if they can't, I'll def give him a call.

As for coilovers, that would be nice, but i dont think I'll be in the market for them anytime soon as we are saving for a house.

The reason i mention Mick about the intake, is because he could the reproduce them for other B4 owners. Which in the end helps everyone.

Its a bit far for us to travel just for that. I'm happy to send the item after it's replaced, but Canberra is a long way from Newcastle for intercooler piping.

That looks great Jeff. Better than new.

Then when you get the power, then you get the women.

Bad news.......... The front mount wont be going in till mid October as the guys that are doing it are shutting down till then. And before you go and say just get so and so to do it, We don't like any old Joe Blow work on the car, we are too particular as past experiences with "Joe" have left us very dissatisfied. I'll just have to get those fuel rails and FPR between now and then B) Hmmmmmm Kosti isn't going to be pleased, he was going to get my TMIC brackets...... anyone want to let him down slowly for me :empathy3:

Budget doesn't allow both atm.... one or the other, can't afford the stay in Canberra, fuel, time off and the pipework/fitting.

Consider replicating the 'custom' work and organising a kit? Are you losing the factory horns location or just going underneath?

Stick with the Bilsteins and get some sway bars and strut brace and you'll be happy, couldn't see a need for coilovers unless your doing trackdays...

Nice car! I've got almost exactly the same, blue B4 with bbs's and i have to say i like that new front bar, i'm interested to see what it looks like when your done!

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.
