This is pretty much how he bought the car back in August 2006 except for the smoked side indicators, i added them shortly after. Stock standard with 40,000 km on the clock and clean as a whistle.
Before i had a chance to do anything besides the smoked side indicators to the car Newcastle was hit with a massive hail storm in November 2006. While i was stuck at work, the car was parked in our driveway at home. Lee was just about to go out to grab some groceries and it hit, without warning. Hail stones the size of cricket balls (they were seriously that big). She rang me at work in tears and told me how the car was hammered. Luckily no glass was broken.... i say luckily because my mate lived close by and had both his front and rear windscreens smashed, our perspex skylight in our living room had a ball of ice smash through it like it was made of paper.
Insurance covered the damage after paying the excess, but we had to wait till May 2007 as everywhere was booked out, and as we were working, we didn't get to the panel shop untill a few days after the event (obviously everyone else got in before us).
The car got a new bonnet, new boot, new wing and a new roof. I paid the extra to get the bumpers, mirrors, door handles and the trim resprayed at the same time to save a colour match mess up.
After we got the car back to original condition, I started to save up to do some minor modifications to the car. Everything was going well and i had started tuning the ECU. Then in August 2007 the car was hit in a car park at the local shopping centre. The other car hit the drivers side front fender which in turn ruined the front bumper as it broke one of the mounting points. We were both very disappointed but saw this as an opportunity to get the front bar that we liked at a much cheaper cost. Insurance agreed to cover the cost of buying, painting and fitting a standard bar so all we had to do was pay the difference plus postage.....WIN.
Finally in May 2008 we got the exhaust made and we were, with lack of a better word, stoked with the outcome. After reseting the ECU we saw a gain of 29kw from my open source logging/tuning software and it felt like it too.
The next modifications the car will be undertaking are FMIC, front lower arm bar (H brace) and, depending on the pipe work for the intercooler, an in gaurd pod filter. If i can keep the standard air box I will have an Apexi power intake kit to suit a liberty B4 for sale soon. Hopefully the FMIC and Lower arm bar will be hooked up between now and next fortnight.
