Possibly the MY06 to steer clear of those plastic vent things found on the MY07 rear bumper.
You'll be fine with an MY07, the facelift happened on the MY08 models.
Possibly a stupid question, but what does the 'r' stand for? Cause when looking through Red Book at different Liberty models they write 3.0i instead of 3.0r. Any difference?
No difference. The "R" doens't stand for anything in particular, it's just the model designation code.

Even better, great!

Thanks for that. My search continues.

Another quick question, how does the Liberty go in regards to fuel consumption? In both the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder? If you could compare to my VS for example. I assume there'd be a big difference being a newer car.

I have no idea what sort of consumption a VS would get, but I guess it would be around the 13 or 14 l/100 mark.

My MY08 2.5 does around 10.2 l/100 if I'm doing a bit of a mix of running around town and light hwy, but if I'm on a solid hwy run, I've had it as low as 6.8 l/100. That's for a manual transmission btw. An auto will use slightly more and feels more sluggish than the manuals.
The years previous to that should do about the same l/100 k's. the 3.0 should see an average of arround 11 l/100.

A slight revision, the facelift (including the vents on the rear you don't want) did apply to the my07 models. Look for my06 and below.

I've never personally calculated it but after taking a quick look at Red Book it tells me that the VS consumes 11.5 l/100 km. This is judged on it being brand new though right?

All in all, I'll be saving a little less on petrol then. Not that it's a big deal either way cause I need and want a new car anyway but it's always good to have this type of information stored in the memory bank. I thought so cause I did a Google image search and noticed that the MY07's had it. Can the vents be easily removed? Only because if I was to buy a Liberty with them I wouldn't mind colour matching it to the car's colour and getting them sprayed. Just makes them less of an eye sore in my opinion.

HA! Very true Alex.

Colour matching the vents seems like a bit of a waste of time and money in my book, but if that's what you want then go for it mate. If the vents are a massive issue, just get an MY06 or below, or any gen4 wagon. In both cases they don't have the vents.

Redbook isn't always accurate.

Get out there and start test driving. Research will drive you insane! ;)

You are right, but wrong.

Thanks for the suggestion SUBARU. I'm already going insane not being able to walk out the front door and getting into one. It's more the point of finding a nice one as well as saving that extra bit of dinero.

I honestly dont see why the vents are such an issue? I dont think they look that bad really

If i had them id just leave them or get the jdm bits to fill the hole and probly not wire them....cause JDM YO!

I don't know why. It's probably just my fatigue and bitch of a headache that's not allowing me to think properly. The vents won't stop me from buying the car if it's the SpecB for example. I guess I'm being too fiddly.

Nek minit.

I know it's nice to have luxuries in a car but I personally would be buying a car with lower km's, full service history and in immaculate condition over an average condition car with a sunroof, leather etc. Especially when you are working with a limited budget. Just my 2 cents.

A good point. I've seen several Liberty's on Carsales that do provide the full package though, it's just the price that's a negative as you've said. I'm still keeping an eye out for some whilst saving the extra bit of dough I need though.

You're a w hore. Best come back EVAR!

To be honest guys the only thing holding me back at the moment is the money. I want to try and save a bit more to either get the better car or to ensure I have money laying around for the worst-case scenario after making the purchase.

I appreciate all the feedback I've managed to grab from everyone though. It's been a great help. I'll change that 'gonna' into a 'done it' as soon as I can. No rush.
