Gen 3 rear ends are horrible. The plastic garnish that covers the whole width of the boot reminds me too much of a VT commodore.
That Gen 4 looks amazing!

I stand corrected. SUBARU, you just reignited the flame in my love for that beast of a machine. I CANNOT WAIT. Black looks sick but might be a tad harder to maintain?

If it was any other colour it'd look pretty good.

This car is super gay.

I agree, silver headlight innards (they look good stock and black), didnt even remove the orange indicator from the headlights??, blitzen bar (worst bar ever!), odd side mirrors (just ugly), bad colour, no spoiler and stance...its just all wrong lol

Each to their own though

But Id love those rims!! Not in such a big offset though....function over form ;)

This has been a legacy/liberty thing since the gen1? So holden copied us!! And they did a shit job of it! As the legacy looks good, vt is soo bad...especislly when they put in altezza style corners with the stock red garnish...haha ohh holdens drivers...so silly lol

Though the legacy tinted garnish with the inner lights working looks pimp

Hey! It's not our fault Holden designed those cars! We just drive 'em. Though I've never had anything but a VL and VS.

SUBARU, I can't get over that pic you posted of the black Liberty. :o

That's hot, but the STi badge? Alright, I'm gonna get back to my list. I'll post it up for everyone to take a look at and see whether I'm right or not.

Alright so after having a bit of a look around various sites, Red Book and even the Subaru website, this is what I've come up with. In order of best to worst, this is how the models of a Liberty go:
  • GT
  • Premium Pack
  • SpecB
  • Safety Pack
  • Stock standard

Then you have to choose between the 2.0, 2.5i and 3.0, and whether I want a manual or auto transmission.

Does that sound about right guys? If possible, would anyone be willing to let me know exactly what goes into each category? I mean, you have the stock standard. What does the Safety Pack provide? What does the SpecB provide on top of that, etc.

Thanks boys for your help in advance. I've learned so much in so little time!

Spec B is normally above the premium packs because it is a prem pack with better suspension.
Also, insert one above GT "GT Spec B"

Spec B has the bilstien suspension. Specifically designed for the car. Firmer, yet still retains good comfort. Generally more performance based suspension compared to the stock standard stuff. Factory Bilstien shock units (no spring) for the B4 (Yes, Gen 3, but its what I have to compare) priced 550 each for the fronts, so they are not cheap crap.

Cheers,
Ben

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

GT
Premium Pack
SpecB
Safety Pack
Stock standard

Close. 2004 to 2006 models look more like this in order of most premium to base model. The gt and 3.0r models have the same specification, aside from engines.

Gt tuned by STi
GT spec b
GT awd premium pack (2004 only)
GT
3.0r spec b blitzen
3.0r spec b
3.0r-b (2005 only)
3.0r
2.5 Luxury
2.5 Premium pack
2.5 Safety pack
2.0 luxury series
2.0 R limited
2.0 R dual range awd
2.0 R

2007 to 2009 (my08 and my09) looked more like

GT tuned by STi
GT spec b-r (2009 only)
Gt spec b
Gt
3.0r spec b
3.0r premium
2.5i heritage luxury edition
2.5i heritage
2.5i luxury edition
2.5i premium pack
2.5i sport edition
2.5i
2.0 R

There's a heap of variants and different editions. I might have missed some, like the dual range variants of some of the above.

Ah ok. I get you guys now. Thanks for that. Really does clear things up and now I know exactly what I'm looking for. The GT's are out of the question at the moment due to being on my greens but the next best thing are the SpecB's then right? I saw one the other day in black and loved it. Looked tough, even as a stocker. Love the red 'SpecB' badge it had on it as well. ;)

Thanks for your help so far boys, really appreciate it.

The only way to visually differential between a stock Spec b on the outside of a gen 4 is the different alloys and front bumper trimming.

None of them had a spec b badge, so the one you saw must have been added by the owner. Meaning that in all likelihood, it wasn't a spec b, if you know what I mean. ;)

So yeah, if you can't have a turbo, then top of the line for you in terms of features and performance is the 3.0r spec b.
Given your budget of $15k, you're likely looking at my06, maybe my07 and below. Even then a spec b might be a bit of a stretch, so you're mainly looking at a 3.0r, which isn't too far off spec b specification.

I get ya. And I know exactly what you mean. Similar thing to idiots putting Chevrolet badges on their Holden's. Doesn't add any value or make the car any faster.

Thanks for that SUBARU. Much appreciated. The MY06 or MY07 is definitely what my target is. Possibly the MY06 to steer clear of those plastic vent things found on the MY07 rear bumper but beggars can't be choosers at the end of the day. It looks like I've managed to get my budget spot on which is good to see as well.

Possibly a stupid question, but what does the 'r' stand for? Cause when looking through Red Book at different Liberty models they write 3.0i instead of 3.0r. Any difference?
