Well, After a solid 5 years and 130,000km's of daily driving abuse with not one problem. My woman has decided she wants an upgrade from her 2007 Suzuki Swift GLX.

Shape: Small hatch.
Needs: New, Not thirsty, Blue in colour, Manual, Petrol, Bluetooth and Ipod compatibility.
Driving environment: Mainly around town with the odd freeway trip.

So far she has taking a liking to the new swift, Both normal and sport. Mainly the normal one as it's cheaper.

I got her to drive the new impreza 2.0i, She liked it but said it wasn't her...

I personally loved the impreza. But, I'm a subaru person. (Only thing i didn't like is that when you throw it in neutral at a set of lights it turns itself off until you put it in gear and take off!)

Being a mechanic, I have negative things to say about every car. So I'm only influencing her, Not making the decision. :P

If you were in this situation, What would you buy for the wife, girlfriend ect ect? (Remember, This is for a girl who doesn't care about performance. Only looks, Cheap to run and I would like it to be safe if anything bad happened.)

The car will be upgraded again in 5 years.

Cheers lads, It's doing my head in. :dash2:

golf

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

Changed original post for more options.

Golfs are way to expensive and scare me.

I'd go the Mazda 3.

I don't like the look of it with that big smiley grin on its face (the previous gen was much nicer). But the new models are available with that Sky Active technology they rave about, which basically means direct injection. Good technology in a cheap-ish car. I think the only other car in its segment to have it is the Golf....but that's a turbo so you get hit with a larger insurance cost I'd say.

I drive an older 3 for work and I really like it. Its got sporty seats, a really fancy dash cluster and a few other niceties.

I think Morgs has driven a few Focus's for work so may be able to shed some light on those....

Yeah not a fan of the Focus.

No centre console
Bus-type windscreen wipers which have a weird cycle that annoys the crap outta me :P
Don't like the throttle feel
Plus a few other things... I dunno! Not my cuppa/

Fiesta is just a tiny version of the Focus.

Haven't driven a Mazda 3 but after owning, writing off and owning another 323, I'd vouch for the Mazda.

Is she pretty set on brand new?

Diesel Cruze?

Cerato?

Civic?

i30?

Mini Cooper?

Except the Mini. They're okaayyy..... Better with a turbo :D

I don't think the Swift is a bad choice. What's the current RE?
