Remember, you do drive a turbo.

Hyundai i30 seem to be impressive cars and have a great rap sheet. So far, very mechanically sound, great warranty etc.
I know a few guys at a hyundai and suzuki dealership. I can have a word with them if you like ;)

Dad had one in VIC, engine stopped 3 times on him in a day or two, so he took it back. He said the interior felt and looked like cheap plastic crap

My vote goes to the Swift!

I personally loved the impreza. But, I'm a subaru person. (Only thing i didn't like is that when you throw it in neutral at a set of lights it turns itself off until you put it in gear and take off!)

That sounds like an awesome feature, save on fuel!

I dont think you can fault the suzuki swifts really. they are a good car, and i reckon the sports models look really good. although im like you and would vote the impreza, also a fine looking car with some very nice features.

Cam, dont go pointing out all the flaws in the corolla when you come round to mine, the parents just bought a new one and i dont think dad would be too pleased!

Maybe a tarago mate, for kids? Doesnt seem like that long ago you were single, now got a wife, dare say kids with in the next 5 years, or is that why you got the outback?

i drive a swift every day (2008 model) to work and its a great little car. I have also seen the end result with a 60kph front ender and it held up extremely well.

Can't see coilovers and childrens spines going well together, No kids for me. :P

I don't think a tarago is a small hatch either...

I'd have to agree with the i30 being bad to drive and cheap feeling on the inside. We have nothing but i30's in the Gov fleet at my work. We are kinda lucky having a dedicated VW Caddy to our team.

I think the new swift would proberly suit well. Its one of the cars on the list for my mrs when she finally learns how to drive. May end up getting her a Mini as she loves everything about them.

How much are Mini's?

No one was interested in dads MY04 Cooper S with 100k kms so he traded it for $12k :(

Such a fun little car!

A new cooper S you dont get much change from 45k. And thats with bugga all options. Made by BMW, so while the servicing costs might be ok (comparable to Ford/Holden), the spare parts are priced pretty nasty. Plus you have no spare and run-flats. Instantly add 30% to your tyre costs. They are fun, but for the price they aren't worth it. I did a lot of looking at them a while ago. The early models did not have a very good rap once you got about 30 - 50 thou on them, as they were plagued by problems that were not cheap to fix. This is the main reason I left them well alone.

Swifts are a decent car, especially when you look at the price.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Interesting.

Dad's was $40k new. Only options was floor mats though. I gave him plenty of grief about that :sarcastic:

Never had any issues during the 7 years of ownership and 100k km of driving.

Run flats are terrible. I think he only replaced them once and then went to regular tyres the next time around which were much better.

Also, the car is supposed to tell you when the services are due (depending on how you drive it) which is an awful system. He went for a good 30k kms without an oil change and ended up with a pretty bad leak. Traded it with the leak as it was an engine-out job :nea:
