Sorry to hijack the topic a bit, but for those that have had full comprehensive insurance, is it better to increase your premium to decrease the amount of insurance you have or to just set it at a suitable amount (such as $1,000)? I have to insure my car very soon as my credit note runs out in a few days time and have never had full comp before.

At the moment the best quote I've received is from Just Car; $1,784 per year (premium at $1,125 and value of $22,300).

Wanting to buy/looking for: single genuine STi rim, genuine STi front lip, Corazon or Zero/Sports grille and another OEM grille

Nothing wrong with having a high excess. Mine is $2100 and premium is just over $1000. Just make sure u have the money to pay the excess.

Jordan have u looked at the SG9 foresters. In my opinion they look better then the older modles. I'm sure I've seen NA ones around the $8k mark. Also don't get one with a sun roof. They crack and leak. I've had both these happen to mine.

You only pay the excess when you're at fault anyway, right?

Yeah I would assume so. The other persons insurance should cover the damage to your car. To be on the safe side, I'd have the money sitting there just incase.

Great, thanks guys. Wouldn't hurt to increase it a bit then to save on how much I pay per year. Topic is all yours again Jordan. :P

Be careful you don't get hit with a large a storage fee.

The car is still your property so you could even take it home & part out the whole thing if you have space & time.

Once your car has been assessed and deemed a write off, the car is no longer yours. You'll get a payout and a letter to say that the car has been transferred into the name of the insurance co and that the VIN and rego can never be used on the road again.

Copy that.

It was a while ago (20 years) so I should have realised things are different now but I've had 2 cars written off by other people & got to keep them both. The first.... got hit with a storage fee after insurance was paid & ended up signing the wreck over in return for storage. Probably got scammed but didn't mind too much cause the pay out was generous.

You always have the option to buy the car back from the insurance co...

I've never heard of the storage fee though? I'd have thought it would all go as part of your claim?

You're only 2.0.

You're my 2.0
