Thanks so much for that advice :)

My P+S has a pretty decent manual mode, BUT I can't hook a timer/remote to it, So I risk Moving it e.t.c

I've found some walkthroughs to get what I want, It's just a matter of buying a camera now.

650D - Body only http://www.kogan.com...lr-camera-body/ - $509 and twin lense kit http://www.kogan.com...m-55-250mm-kit/ $759

I would probably go with the twin lense, solely for the fact that, like Harry said, It's good value and I don't have lots of money spare ;)

No worries. Also if you plan on doing any video recording, make sure the camera has some sort of Auto Focus! My 550D doesn't and it's such a pain haha

As for remotes, not sure about Nikons, but you can get some really cheap ones for the Canon of Ebay. Under $50 easily. Get a decent tripod to. Something with decent legs so it doesn't flex and wobble if there is a slight breeze. And get one with the quick release legs. Mine is an older design that you have to unscrew a clamping ring, takes ages and is annoying lol.

I have a Canon EFS 15-85 lens purchased second hand, never used for just under half price. So when you feel like upgrading, better lenses can be had for cheap. I'm looking at getting a 50mm f1.8 lens soon, so handy for low light situations, portraits and auto photog.

The twin lens is super handy just because it gives you a few options for multiple situations.

Decent tripod is definitely a must! Makes life so much easier...

Also, I bought a Nikon remote for $15 but haven't used it yet.

I do want to video. And I know the 650D has auto focus in video, but I read that it's clunky. The d5100 looks like the nikon equivalent price wise at least.

Need moar research.

I think you can control the cameras through USB aswell, which could be handy!

I get what you are saying about the twin lenses. Will be good for learning and working out what I want aswell

I bought a tripod and can't remember the last time I used it. Might bring it with me next month for that photo meet.

Oh its very clunky. If you can get your head around manual focus its pretty sweet. This is one big reason why I like Sony. Full auto focus for video. You hit record and away you go.

Yeah Nikons seem to be the good when it comes to Auto Focus, even the lower spec range cameras a decent.

$15! Mad buy Morgs!

You can get tripods that are an adjustable single poll. Nice and compact and just helps stabilize the camera when you are running around flicking of quick snaps at car shows etc.

One thing I read with Sony is they use a memory stick, annoying because I have an sd slot in my laptop, and I have heaps of SD cards already. I also read that they don't have 3rd party accessories as readily available/as cheap as canon and Nikon.

Don't know what reviews your reading. Sony have been doing SD for the last 3 years.

When they started doing DSLR's they were using Compact Flash then Combo SD/Memory Stick. Now they just do SD.

Best thing to do is go into a store and try them out. You need to get a feel for the cameras.
