HI ppls...

I have MY03 Subaru Liberty B4, (auto) and it has a 3" TBE from when I bought it...

I think the previous owner for it done at MRT in Sydney... :P

Anyway, over the weekend, I was cruising at about 110km/h on the motorway and there was quite bit of noise in the car, like drone..

I was wondering if this is normal since it is a TBE, or is there something up with it.

Would getting a new muffler put on there help with this? Since I don't mind a little noise at take off and idle, but not the constant drone while cruising...

Anyone know anything about this?

Yes new muffler will make all the difference, or you may just need to add in a hotdog. Also in response to your post in the GT, there is no way a tune will alter the mechanical diff ratio. You're stuck with 2.5k rpms @ 100km/h or whatever the auto has ;)

It all depends on the muffler. My 3" TBE has no resonators and with a cannon it drones like crazy but with a Hi Tech oval muffler it is very quiet at 110.

Thanks guys... looks like a new muffler it is for me... thats fine... I was going to change the tip anyway on my car, since it was looking a little burnt out, so I will just change the whole muffler... hope it doesn't cost too much...

Any suggestion? I still like the boxer rumble on idle and take off, but not when cruising....

I don't mind the 2700rpm when 110km/h.... I expected that, better than my 1.8 Lancer.. LOL!

What kind of muffler do you have?

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

The auto will always drone. Get a custom diff-back made up that's 3" into 2.5" with a generic muffler and a sti tip or tip of your choice.

Will look nice, Rumble under load and be quiet-ish off load.

Thanks Cam....

I have no idea what muffler I have on there now... all I know is the previous owner said its a 3" TBE, and the place he had his work does was MRT... so must have been one of theirs..

Auto will always drone hey? Damn that sux... well if I can reduce the drone to a decent level, I'll be happy with that.

Wouldn't a custom set up cost a fair bit? Not looking to spend too much, so was thinking a simpler muffler would work too... hoping more like it...

See if you can find a standard muffler.

I haven't heard a single good thing about MRT exhaust's. About 80% of people I know, who've had MRT power enhancement done, have said the car sounds crap afterwards.

I think MRT mufflers are fantastic.(About the only thing i like from them, lol) :P

Post pics and we will be able to figure it out.

As others have said, It may even be fixed with a resonator.

Each to their own I guess. It's probably because most of them are my Dad's mates who have retired and have gone and bought Gen 5 GT's and Forester XT's. Must be the old ears :P

My auto doesn't drone... All of my liberty's have been auto, all have full systems bar this one... And no drone...ever... The last 2 exhaust I had were xforce... I had a generic thing on my na heritage with uel... And it sounded tough on idle, roared on take off and superb on the highway... And I did lots of k's in it...

I now have an mpo2 on referral from some of the guys on here... Highly recommended!

Thanks for the reassurance... Just not a fan of too much noise at cruising speed...

Here are some images of the exhaust I got on my car...
