If the Muffler Men near you is anything like the one near me then they are pretty clueless when it comes to Subaru's.
My local one told me my new X-Force would be the same as my Hi Tech but it is a lot louder!

Wow... ok then.. maybe I'll call a few other places first.. mine also told me the xforce one wouldn't fit my B4... said they would fit a Liberty but not my B4... coz he just did a B4 a few weeks ago... anyway, will call a few places... the hi tech would have been nice.. but oh well.. :)

Hi,

Just remember we're talking about an auto B4 here. Mine was droney.

Cheers,
Nik

I've done 20k km in my car in 6mths... No drone at all... And does go like a cut snake... It goes back to 2.5 from the diff into the mp02... Highly recommend that muffler...

Interesting... I'm still waiting to see if my car does go like a cut snake, or am I just imagining that its not... doesn't seem as fast as it should be...

So auto, going from 3 to 2.5, and you didn't lose too much power?

Going from 3" to 2.5" diff back u actually gain mid range torque without the loss of any noticeable power...

Check out MSR's website

Thanks Cam....

I have no idea what muffler I have on there now... all I know is the previous owner said its a 3" TBE, and the place he had his work does was MRT... so must have been one of theirs..

Auto will always drone hey? Damn that sux... well if I can reduce the drone to a decent level, I'll be happy with that.

Wouldn't a custom set up cost a fair bit? Not looking to spend too much, so was thinking a simpler muffler would work too... hoping more like it...

My exhaust from turbo back is 2 1/4 primary side and 2.5 secondary into a 3 inch middle and muffler apexi and i get a growl not a burble and at 3000rpm drones a bit but music covers it well...If i go over 3000 or under its silent...

Thats pretty good man... since I didn't get the TBE on the car myself, it was there when i got it, I don't really know the details of it... :(

if it is tuned for it... if its 3" to 2.5" on the same tune your performance will probably suffer..

4 pages with no answers. C'mon lads!

1. The exhaust bloke you saw is full of shit.
2. Sounds like you don't want to spend a lot of dosh.
3. Go to a different exhaust place, tell them to remove that abomination of a muffler you currently have from the rear diff back.
4. They can use that for a template on your new 2.5" mild steel diff back, running into an offset, glass packed oval sports muffler.
5. Add a nice 4" tip.
6. While it's on the hoist, have them check for a centre resonator.
7. Fork over around $250
8. Get on the freeway and experience decreased drone.

What I mean to say is, no definitive outcome for the OP for what's a pretty basic solution.

Lol Thanks for the very straight forward answer... I will copy and paste that into my phone when I go to an exhaust place sometime... :)

Question, will there be a reduction in power because of going from a 3 to a 2.5?

If your ECU has a standard tune, then you'll have no dramas. You'll be slightly increasing back pressure, so you might even find some gains by goin smaller.

Sweet... thanks mate... I've been told the ECU if stock, but not sure... confusing with the ECUtek sticker on the engine cover, but the previous owner said ECU was swapped for a stock one... LOL!

Thats cool, I'll call a few exhaust shops

3in is a massive pipe for a standard car. I wouldn't be worried about loosing power going back to a 2.5in pipe.
My tt currently has some crappy old aftermarket outback muffler on the back cos it was all i could find at short notice, it has only about 1.75in pipe diameter!, yet has still put down 160kW to the tires like this... granted i could probably find a bit more top end with a bigger pipe, but my point is that a standard b4 will struggle to outflow probably even a 2in pipe, so don't be worried at all about going back to a 2.5 size pipe.
My old car had almost 360hp, it had a standard dump pipe and then 2.5in from the cat back.

Awesome, thanks mate... will look at the 2.5 then.... just got to find a good exhaust shop that knows what they are doing and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.. :)
