Is there and physical difference between the factory hid headlights to the normal ones?
I wana go with Philips H7 Xenon bulb kit but I don't want to be one of this dickheads blinding everyone. Do the HID headlights have a different reflector set ?

To do it right you need to retro fit in a diffuser lens (I believe it's called). It still won't be legal though. As HID's are only legal as fitted from factory. Shiv, a member on here, did this. PM him.

Or else, some sort of legacy ones came standard with HIDs, Ben has/had some of those. his user name is Ben_STi-wagon; PM him also.

yep just get some genuine JDM headlights as they are HID's standard.
as stated still not legal due to it not being auto levelling and dont have the washers. but dont worry about that as cops wouldnt know the difference unless you put some strange coloured bulbs in.
they pop up for sale every now and then on here.

Yea, I'd recommend to not go over 6000K. I have 6000, 5500 is probably better.

Yeh i got 6000K on my S15 i wouldent go anything over that or you start getting too much attention. anything over 6000 is pointless i find.
If i was to install a Philips HID kit in the Factory HID headligh is there any complication to wiring it up?

that depends how much wiring knowledge you have! haha i think one issue that comes up is the number of pins change. theres a how to thread somewhere on here...

Factory B4 hid's are 4.3K and are crap i have them in my car....As for Hid's being illegal well they aren't legal or illegal, to comply you need height adjuster switch on the dash....

Also Jdm hid are 4 wire plus the height adjustment switch which is 3 wires...the ADM headlight is 3 wire and no wires for anything else...And the retro fit to the headlight in my taste looks bad...

but to answer your question HID is 3 x the light over halogen, and once you go hid you'll never go to a halogen again...

Yeh fully agree after having 6000k Xenon I'd never go back so much safer specially in the rain. But how do they without being in a projector lens? I really don't want to be one of those dick heads who blind everyone I go past. Will 6000k be to much for these type of headlights ?

Going to disagree here.

To be completely legal in Australia, they need to have the headlight washers. I personally think that it's a ridiculous rule as the washers do nothing; but it's a legality.

The JDM B4's had the in-cabin headlight adjustments but my XT doesn't and neither does dad's WRX. Don't think that's a requirement for HIDs?

However, yes. Once you go HID, it's very difficult to go back!

The JDM factory HIDs are fine. They're designed differently to the AUDM headlights so that the light refracts and reflects differently.

Retro fitting ebay-spec HIDs into your AUDM headlights is where issues occur. I did it in my Outback and while the light output was awesome, it was very bright for oncoming traffic.

Will 6000k be to much for these type of headlights ?

Yeah, you'll find that it will be very hard to see at night in the rain with 6000k.

4300k is the temp that all factory HIDs come in. 5000k is about as hot as you want to go for maximum light output.

4300k is win.

Morgan, your headlights may be self levelling, could be sensors on the control arms or something.

Seen em on a g4 tb sti.

Yep, that is the ADR :D Nice one Morgan!
Also, not saying that Jovi is wrong, just that Morgan is also right.

I think they do, I can't be bothered digging out the brochure for Morgans car but I had an MY11 handy and it has self leveling..... This isn't conclusive but it suggests that at some stage the HID's on foresters were in fact self leveling...

Would it take much searching to dig it up and send it to me, Josh?

Nah not really. Give me a sec, I don't have the time right now to scan the whole brochure, but I can scan the specs for you.

What year is yours again? MY07?

Oh didn't realise it was a paper brochure!

If you're able to scan that page, that would be awesome!

2005 MY06.

One of the first ones of the newer SG's.
