Blue smoke is turbo seals if my memory serves correctly? Anyone else?

Yeah thats what I was thinking.... something to do with seals and stuff, but then it was all fine the next time I started the car.. shouldn't the smoke always be coming out if it was something serious like that?

Will see what happens when I start the car tomorrow evening when I have to take the wife out... I hope its not some serious damage to the seals, or something that could cost a lot to fix... Don't need that right now...

Have you done an oil change yet? I'll do mine soon. Wasn't sure if the previous owner used 5w30 edge or 5w40 penrite hpr5.

So im going wih the 5w40...my oil level hasn't moved much since 2000km ago. Same as coolant level. I cleaned out the overflow tank last week the level is still max.

I'm doing the change for peace of mind and a bit more engine protection.

$68 inc crush washer and Subaru oil filter
:)

Im driving my car up ramps tonight. I'll pick up a jack next time. 150mm to 450mm+ lift height

Nah I haven't changed anything.. but I think I should... my rego is due in about 2 weeks, so I have to get that, plus my CVs done, and I might get a gearbox service done too, which it is due for... last minor service was 2000km ago... but we'll see... its going to be an expensive fortnight...

It's the same with most older cars... You'll have to budget a few hundred every few weeks to fix things, for the first month...

And after that things should be ok :P

Try a thicker oil and see how you go. check the engine fluids every 2 petrol tanks. i usually check on weekends when the engine is cold.

With cars like ours I would expect it to burn some oil during wide open throttle.

Cool.. thanks man... will check it out on the weekend I guess.... after that first time with the smoke, it didn't smoke after or while driving... so tomorrow when I start the car, I'll see if there is smoke again... hope there isn't... but yeah, I should check the oil anyway...

Thanks dude... :)

Little update... been starting the car up for the last few days and going for drives... no smoke on startup... which is good, but car seems to be running a little less smoothly than it did before, unless I'm imaging it... but meh, could be time for an oil change service... any advice?

Get the oil change done with for peace of mind.

You can try my oil, penrite 5w40 hpr5... Or use 10w50 if you drive the car harder.

Sounds good man... I'll try out the 5w40...

Now sure if I should take it to my mech for a service while getting the pink slip for my car for rego, or do it myself...

Do you have a jack and stands or ramps?
And do you have an oil filter wrench, incase she's stuck on well.

And a 17mm spanner?

Buy stands, a jack and basic tools. You'll save money on oil changes over the next few years :)

screw drivers + 3/8 ratchet with sockets from like 8mm to 19mm, pliers, side cutters...etc..

The great thing is you know its done properly. no more stripped plug and over tightened stuff. Lol

Yes... I have most of that stuff, or can get them quite easily...

Don't have beer though... lol

I do trust my mech though, been going to him for years.. and he knows his cars... so maybe for the first service I might take it to him to let him have a look at it...

They always find more stuff to fix. I can change the oil & filter without jacking up the car & it is pretty looooow.

Have a go at it mate.
Why pay for labour... Money better spent elsewhere.

Hey guys, so I believe my front Parker lights on my car have melted... yes... melted, not just blown...

Is there a way for me to get the melted globes out to replace them, or do I have to replace the whole headlight?
