Hi guys,

I've been getting all the symptoms of a bad knock sensor and the associated error code. Today I replaced it with a new sensor, I didn't get any check engine lights for about the first 5 kms then it reappeared again.

What could be the problem?

Cheers.

Make sure you routed the cable/plug around the manifold water pipe the correct way. see the service manual for the correct instructions.

also ensure your headers are not loose. this can cause false knock readings also.

Checked everything. New dodgy sensor or bad wiring?

You can have a look under my bonnet and compare if you like, how often is the CEL happening , genuine or not genuine sensor, might have to take your Lib to the crew at STechnics to maybe reset it, but it's sounds a dicky sensor, or a washer/ spacer could be needed, let me know, happy to help you out mate.
Cheers Sandy

Exactly the same as the old sensor, but I'm not sure whata stock one looks like as it could have been replaced previously. I'm going to have to I think :(
And it seems to be completely random.

Sounds like my old dicky one , I think I still have it, I can swing by on Friday and you can have a looksie to compare let me know as this upcoming weather is not a good time for you Lib to be protesting! Here's a pic of my stock genuine dicky one, there is no noticeable damage at all, but it needed replacing.

I get that error as well :( Try pulling it out and giving it a clean with contact cleaner.

May be in the MAF.

If the MAF is only measuring flow, then it uses IAT to be able to calculate density.

Did you tighten the knock sensor with a torque wrench? They are a bit sensitive to distortion IIRC.

No I didn't. The knock sensor issue hasn't logged in the ecu after I took it off again and cleaned the contact surface.

So give the maf a clean?

So give the maf a clean?

Worth a try.

Doesn't always fix them, but if it runs better you know its a MAF fault.

Had a look at the workshop manual, it indicated there is a air temp/pressure sensor under the ignition leads to the right. Will have a look tomorrow..
