re post from a FB post.. whats your guys thaughts ??

Pretty low if you ask me..

[Street FX Motorsport & Graphics]

Here is a scene from a legal, organised, QLD car show today.. 50+ police and Department of Transport, blocking both routes out of the event, specifically set up to target the vehicles going to this show. What are your thoughts on this? My personal thoughts are that this act by the QPS is extremely short sighted. While on one hand the Police will have had "great success" at defecting people and issuing fines, but have SEVERELY failed at one thing - These events are run, with part of the reason being - to get it's members to take it off the street, and take it to the track (check out their track days, run regularly). The ability for this organisation to 'convert' those people from 'car shows' to maybe giving 'track days' a go (and as such, driver education), is now greatly reduced. If people now think that they have less chance of getting nicked out back of the industrial estate or up the mountains, what motivation do they have to go to legally organised events? I remember running events way back when in VIC, the police (as 'hard arsed' as they are down there), still would come to the meeting places (invited), and EDUCATE the members, let people have an open Q&A, not treat it like a "fish in a barrel".. Very disappointed with QPS's display today, Very poor form.. What's your say? [Picture sent in from Scotty, via Cruizefm]

Hi,

I completely agree with the operations like these. Considering all that fine money goes straight back into road improvement, etc. It is simply a smart use of tax payers money for them to congregate where a lot of people are breaking the law. Much better use of their time than aimlessly driving around waiting for something that looks out of place.

None of the cars in photo are track cars as far as I can tell. They look like daily drives, so taking the high road that this event keeps illegal activity off the street is a huge stretch.

Was the meet held at a race track?

Cheers,

Nik

I only know what ive posted above.. I do admit all three cars in the pic look like stanced shitbox`s but id be upset if it happened to a subyclub event where our cars are modified to what id call a high standard..

Im sure mine wouldnt make it past them. Even tho the car was professionally assembled at great cost.

Hi,

Not to be a dick, but for the money you spent on that thing, are you really saying it's not engineered street legal?

What happens if you crash?!

Cheers,

Nik

I'm in two minds about this.

I think it's great that these events are organised so that people can take their modified cars off the streets and track them without breaking the law. However, for the Police to take advantage of all the cars there - that's a dog move.

Ultiamtely, if your car is not road legal, you can't complain about it being defected...

Not engineered.. in the process of having the engine numbers changed..

I think the only things it would fail on are too loud and having both CAI and a FMIC.. Herd you can only have 1 intake mod.

This is 99% of the reason the Sled is now destined for track only...after all the shit I went through, it still wasn't 'legal' and my insurance was worth squat.

Police defecting (presumably) illegal mods on a car...I see no issue here?

The title implying police are stalking the event is a bit extreme given the fact those cars took a public road to get to wherever the meet was.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Hi,

This wasn't a track day though, Morgan, just so we're clear.

Cheers,

Nik

Say what?

When was the last time you saw a v8 supercar driving on a public street? (extreme, but relevant example)

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

Flawless copy and paste skills, but you're missing the point.

A car show and a track day are not the same thing.

Ugh i could ramble on for forking days about this stuff.

And you rarely see the same type of cars at a trackday that you do at a car show/meet.

I understand the 'street to track' theory, but car shows aren't part of that equation. The organisers might be the same, but that's where it ends.

I have yet to see a competitor at a track or drag day, leave the event in a cloud of tyre smoke and misplaced ego.

As i said in the first post.. This was just a article i copied and pasted here to discuss.

I personally think there are better things 50 cops could be doing, But hey that's just my opinion. Hence the topic.

And i think stalking is the correct word.. they had both entirys blocked to the event.

Hi,

Car show/track day... Same same.

The same mob organise both.

The Police organise community events, and traffic stop points. Same, same?

And, no, it's not actually. Saying this event was designed to keep people 'off the street' is a ridiculous statement.

@Vicelore: There really isn't.

Firstly, it's not fifty Police officers, even by the completely unverified and bias report from the bloke who loves modified cars own admission, there were many RTA's amongst them.

Police that are trained or being trained for traffic patrol would be the only ones there. Would you send a HWP to a domestic dispute?

Anyway. It's just one photographer than wants to stroke up support with his demographic of modified car owners.

Cheers,

Nik

what most people dont understand is that most 99% of the time including summernats these are RTA set up stations and police are payed by the RTA to be there to pull in the vehicles for the RTA to look over or rta are paying police to look over the vehicles.

people put shit on police but its the rta doing it not police

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

Hi,

Each to their own ay..

Just an interesting topic I think..

I'm not having a go at you, and this topic has and always will bring out two sides to a story. But, when we're only presented with one side, from Facebook, it's hard to not think it's the whining of Boostcruisin members.

@Cameron: Dead right. It is the RTA branch of state government making these calls, and pointing their fingers. I just find it hysterical that people can say driving an illegal car is harmless?

What if you accidentally drive into a school bus?

Or, as tragically happened to a Perth-WRX member, mow down and kill a baby?

Cheers,

Nik
