Nah they aren't shut... but never know... it is a 3hour+ drive there and the fires are still going, so something may be closed on the way there...

 

Is the fire at the hotel you are staying at?

Called the hotel, the fire is about 15min away and the chick was telling me can't smell the smoke or anything but still a worry, coz baby has asthma... so not sure if we should take the risk...

Zac the fires have calmed down heaps over night. wouldnt be an issue now, no road closures, and no issues

A bush fire continues to burn to the west of Fingal Bay in the Port Stephens area.

Current Situation

Heavy rain has fallen across the fireground overnight. Firefighters will today continue work to consolidate containment lines. Cooler temperatures, isolated showers and 40km/h SW winds are forecast in the area today.

There is no direct threat to properties.

The fire has burnt out more than 117 hectares.

Local road closures may be in place as firefighters work off these roads.

Thanks Mark... that is what I read on the RFS sites too... worried about any light smoke because of baby... but we'll see... still got time before we have to leave, so will keep checking the news, and head off there sometime today... if it doesn't look good, will turn back... thanks man

i doubt they are going to flare up again, ive got mates who live up around that area and they said its calmed down significantly from yesterday. weather today is much more favourable for the firefighters today as well, alot cooler and we got a fair bit of rain last night. so i cant see them being a problem
