When I had a computer desk (have everything in storage now)... I had a set of Swan M50W with a 'Brik' DAC (connected with SPDIF), it was a package deal from MyAV. I really liked them. It's a powered 2.1 set, has plenty of punch. Great for games and all types of music. You don't have to connect this to a DAC, it just has a headphone jack for the input - but you'll probably get better sound quality if you move the audio output away from the onboard soundcard. Some boards are prone to noise.

I had a Logitech Z5500 5.1 set prior. I actually still have it, but the control pod is dead. If you like loud, but don't care much about sound range, the bigger Logitech sets are easy fixes.

Put together a new PC recently use to my last one giving up the ghost. Not sure what exactly killed it but my money is on a UPS that died and has done some damage to the pc.

Anyways I just put it all together on the cheap as a budget build. I reused my hard drives and case from the last one. So here is the list.

AMD Ryzen 3 1200 Quad Core

ASUS Prime B350M-A Motherboard

G.Skill DDR4 FlareX 2400mhz 2x8GB Kit

Sapphire Radeon RX560 2GB GPU

Coolermaster G650M PSU

Coolermaster Silcenio 550 Case

Kingston 256GB SSD

Forgot to mention thank you for the tips on the previous page about speaker setups. I still haven't bought anything yet but it's on the cards, haha.

Didn't want to clog up the GT so I thought I'd be cheeky and post this here; I'm in the market for a new phone and am considering buying outright to save a bit of coin.

  • Apple iPhone X ($1,579)
  • Google Pixel 2/Pixel 2 XL ($1,079/$1,399)
  • Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ ($1,199/$1,349)

In no order of preference obviously.

I just can't come to a conclusion. Each has their pros and cons. Operating system doesn't bother me as well but I have been using the iPhone consecutively since the iPhone 3G was released. They all do what I want them to do and have the capabilities to meet my needs for a good two years or more. Prices were sourced from JB Hi-Fi purely as they're one of the cheapest retailers (prices are for 64GB handsets).

Or if you think it's better staying on a 12 or 24 month plan, explain why.

Sweet. I just used JB as a reference anyway.

So I have opted for the Samsung S8+. Bought my girlfriend the S8 and we received $200 off each handset. Stick the $40 per month for 12 months SIM only plan (with 15GB of data) and you're laughing. Should be set for quite some time with this new package.

I paid for each phone outright so have made a good saving when you compare it to some 24 month plans with handset repayments on top.

I got a good price on my two handsets already and work paid for a portion too so I'm not too extreme out of pocket. Doesn't bother me, I usually keep my phones for a couple of years anyway and they're always handed down so we get usage out of them.
