That's how I've been running with my iMac. Avira actually looks pretty good in all honesty. Even has a free VPN.

Okay so PC is ordered and parts are en route. Ended up going as follows;

  • MSI Z170A KRAIT GAMING 3X ATX Motherboard
  • Intel Core i7 6700K Quad Core4.0 GHz Unlocked CPU Processor
  • Samsung 750 EVO 500GB 2.5" SATA SSD
  • Seagate  3TB BarraCuda Desktop HDD
  • ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 DUAL OC 8GB Video Card
  • Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB DDR4
  • Cooler Master CM Storm GX750 750W 80+ Bronze Power Supply
  • Corsair Hydro Series™ H55 Quiet Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Corsair Carbide Spec-03 White LED Mid Tower Case

$1880 delivered through Mwave.

Should run most AAA titled games in 1440 @ 60fps or above. Can handle VR, and will also run 4K games at 30fps. Will also give me PLENTY of power for video creation, even in 4K.

KEEN

And after selling my iMac a couple of weeks back I finally finished the part list and this is what I ended up ordering and building;

  • Intel Core i5-7600K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • Corsair H80i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Asus ROG STRIX Z270i GAMING Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
  • Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
  • Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Mini ITX OC Video Card
  • Fractal Design Define Nano S Mini ITX Desktop Case
  • Corsair RMx 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit
  • Acer XB241H bmipr 24.0" 1920x1080 180Hz Monitor
  • Corsair K70 LUX RGB Wired Gaming Keyboard
  • Logitech G403 Prodigy Wired Optical Mouse

Only thing I need to get now are speakers and a good headset.

Runs like an absolute weapon and has outperformed anything I throw at it so far. I did spend slightly more than I budgeted but for a system I intend on keeping for quite a few years it was worth it.

Been a while since I bought any sort of speakers for a PC. I don't even know what brands to go for and which ones to steer clear of. The monitor has some built-in but they're weak.

I've got to get some better quality ones. I'll do that once my Steam games have downloaded. Just got GTA V and PUBG.

Been a while since I bought any sort of speakers for a PC.

Depends on your budget, Audio Engine A5+ or A2+ (both are 2.0 set-ups). ALOT of options depending if you want 2.0, 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, 7.1 etc etc...

Don't spend $100 and expect them to sound better than your phone.

Headphones/headsets (do you need/want a mic?). Audio Technica's, M50x's if you don't. Audio Technica ATH-AG1X/ATH-ADG1X (closed or open back) or ATH-PG1/ATH-PDG1 (closed or open back) or the Sennheiser Game Zero/One (closed or open) are good too.

Closed back vs open back is a personal preference depending what sound you like, if anyone else is near you etc etc.

Again, don't spend $100 and expect them to sound better than iphone earbuds.

Some people will say get separate heaphones (M50x) and a clip on mic (ModMic), but depends if you use the mic alot, can deal with an extra cable etc.

Then it depends if you're going to use a DAC/Amp or onboard to drive them properly...

FWIW, I've got the A5's (not the '+'), Audio Technica M50's (not the 'x', haven't used in a fair while thou) and Audio Technica ATH-AG1X  driven by a Sound Blaster X7.

2002 Outback - it's gone...

For speakers I just got logitechs z623 from the good guys for $130 and they do pretty dam well, no complaints on audio quality. Only issue I've had is the power button is real dodgy, got to sit it right for it to work, so I just leave them on.
Got steels series arctis 3 and platronics 788 and both have been a bit disappointing tbh.
