Nice.

How long does that 4 cell battery last though?

It could definitely do with a 6 or 8 cell.

Basic browser, unskilled user.

Scroll to the top of the webpage and the url bar should come up. Press the button on the top right (it looks like 3 lines). That will show all open windows and you can close them from there.

How many hours do you get out of it though?

I'm gonna most likely go with this HP : http://www.pccasegea...oducts_id=25147

It's the same price as your Asus, but has the 4th Gen cpu, bigger battery, more USB 3.0 ports, decent speakers (not saying Beats are any good, but with your Asus, it looked like you had to pay extra for the good speakers..)

It has the same graphics card, but it's 2gb less, however with the newer cpu, it shouldn't matter.. and I'll can upgrade it to 16gb ram anytime.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Link's not working for me, don't think video ram makes much difference especially on a laptop, you won't be running high enough resolution in games for it to make much of a difference. 16GB ram might be overkill, I have 8 in my main PC and it's more than enough.

Best thing i'd be looking for in a laptop is a small SSD, makes such a huge difference.

+1000!

My notebook is only a 2.1 Dual core and 4GB ram. Its heaps faster since I installed a SSD.

Spend the extra hundred. More USB3 means more transferring at 50Mb/s. The better battery life is a pro, and generally the heat output will be lower too. Just make sure you remove the pus that is windows 8. Put 7 on it.

Acer is also a respectable brand, never had problems with them. Had plenty of issues with HP though. The spec differences may only be 10% now, but in 12 months when you put a new OS on it, the difference may be larger.

One thing. Make sure you burn off the restore discs before you put anything else on it. So many people come to me asking to fix their laptop after something has died, and when you ask where the recovery discs are they just look at you with a blank look on their face.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

I've had flux for a while, just have to turn it off for movies/games but it's good for reading white background pages at night.

Well you might be able to help. Eventually ill be needing to read an XML file but at this stage im working on getting it to just open access the file and simply print that its been accessed

This is what ive got so far, but it doesnt seem to be working

	function getDoc()
	{
		request = createRequest();
		if (request.overrideMimeType)
		{
			request.overrideMimeType("text/xml");
		}
		if(request)
		{
			request.open("GET", "customer.xml", true);
			request.onreadystatechange = function()
			{
				if ((request.readyState == 4) && (request.status == 200))
				{
					var xmlDocument = request.responseXML;
					alert('XML Document Retrieved');
					document.write(mytext);
				}
			}
		request.send(null);
		}
	}
