hi all

thought i would put up a build thread for my new ride and the story thus far. a lot of you will already know the car though

so I've been around the subaru scene just over 2 years now. i originally bought a 05 subaru liberty GT which I'm sure many of you saw. but after two years of ownership, i got a bit bored of it and didn't really want to go any further with it, so decided to sell up and move on.

so the hunt began for a new car. originally the heart was set on a classic wrx or bugeye wrx wagon. i wanted to go wagon for both practicality and looks. 4 weeks of hunting turned up nothing but garbage that i wasn't willing to part with my hard earned dollars for. the more i looked, the more frustrated i became at what was on offer. i started looking even at sedans but couldn't turn up anything.

eventually i went and test drove a bugeye sedan at a local car dealer. 40 minutes later i climbed out of it unfortunately not too thrilled with the experience. the car itself was awesome, however having suffered back/spinal issues growing up, i do have to be wary of these. when i got out of the car i had the start of some fairly reasonable back pain, which i came to find out is because of the firm bucket seats on the earlier model WRX's. I had to make the decision, buy one and put up with the pain of both my back and the chiropractors bills, or move on and find something else. Because i do a  fair bit of driving and quite a few trips to Sydney, i came to the conclusion that health and comfort had to come first so no WRX for me.

all this time Cams foz was for sale, and I'm deadset surprised it didn't sell prior to this! i had had many people make comments to me saying i should buy it, but of course my heart had been set on a WRX. so i sat down and started crunching numbers, as it was out of my budget. after thinking it over, figuring i can afford to stretch the budget and still afford Europe next year, i sat down with Cam and worked it all out, and soon took possession of the mighty foz!

i can't speak highly enough of the quality work that Cam and even previously Paul put into this car. its second to none. Cams OCD has meant that anything that so much as squeaked has been fixed. if it could be improved, it has been. the amount of work thats gone into the car is unbelievable. every time i drive this car i get a smile on my face now.

theres only a few small things i plan to do to it for my own benefit. I'm replacing the head unit as the Aux in connection doesn't work to something that supports aux in and bluetooth, ill be mounting the GPS unit in and running the wiring so its concealed, and probably will also acquire a scan gauge for it for peace of mind. the other thing is i plan to source a set of 18inch rims in black, something a little more subtle than the G forces that were on it previously, lastly will upgrade the brakes to slotted rotors as well.

other than that theres literally nothing needed to be done, even those things really don't have to be done, but its all out of personal preference really.

looking forward to bringing it on a cruise now!

Awesome buy, mate! It sounds like such a good car.

I really need to make it to a cruise/meet so I can see it in person.

Does it currently have the WRX or XT wheels on it?

I'm sort of leaning towards some Rota SVNs as they were what was on the car originally, and i loved the look of them, but i wouldn't mind the look of spec B's for something different either in saying that.

what wheels are they mark?

few little updates

not much has changed on the car, and for good reason.

did a trip down to tempe tyres on the weekend with Cam and picked up a bargain on some new KU31's for the WRX rims, really sets off the look of the car now with the meatier tyres, and the tyres have made a world of difference in the handling department. great tyre for the price, can't beat them.

got a bit of time off over the christmas break so planning on plastidipping the wheels black to see how that goes. will also be ordering some slim line weather shields in the new year

Happy for you mate.

Good score that GT. Chalk and cheese to your old lib I bet.
Both great cars but different in so many ways.

very much so mate, i loved the liberty, looks wise i daresay it will be hard for me to find a car that looks better than it.

however the forester trumps it in power and handling hands down. I still smile when i put my foot down and hear the intake and blow off valve.

im also loving how sleeper it is. its one of the most unsuspecting cars out on the roads in my opinion.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Hoping to make it to the meet mate
This weekend is already shaping up to be fairly big for me, I'm hoping I have the time to come for it, if so I'll only be staying for a couple of hours

so bit of an update...

driving home last night all of a sudden car was only hitting 15psi max, and was feeling like it was hitting boost cut, drove fine when you were babying it but try and give it a hit and it wanted nothing. got it home very gently and have let it sit all day.

Cam luckily was able to help me out tonight as was Lachy and came around to help me diagnose the issue. turned out to be a simple boost leak caused by a stuffed hose clamp, unfortunately bit hard to find one on a Sunday night so it will be getting replaced sometime this week. Thanks again to the boys for helping me out and diagnosing the issue.

goes to show having a boost gauge is the best way of diagnosing issues and preventing further damage
