I've been going to basketball games in different countries since I was in single digits, and not once witnessed a riot, I've seen home teams lose national championships by one or two points in overtime, still nobody burnt down the arena.

I don't care that people like soccer, I really don't, but don't come at me with the fact that in all your years you've only been to ONE game that hasn't had a riot of sorts and then preach that it's the people not the game, IT'S THE PEOPLE THAT GO TO THE GAME.

SOCCER PEOPLE.

It was an obvious typo man. In all of my years of going to watch soccer games I've only ever witnessed ONE that contained a form of rioting. A form of rioting that is barely worth the mention to begin with. A few guys were drunk, caused a bit of a fight with the opponent and the authorities dealt with them accordingly.

You've just said the same thing. It's the people. The supporters. Not the sport, as it doesn't at all encourage this sort of behaviour. Back in the days of Croatia and Serbia having a go at each other, the soccer games were ferocious. People used to get belted left, right and centre, killed, property damaged, etc. You can't tell me it's the game that caused it and not the politics of what was going on in that time? Games were stopped because of the violence, the people didn't stop when the game stopped. It has also been a way for gangs to do what they do... It's just like any other gang out there, except they go to soccer games and wreak havoc.

Good points though Gary! Do the clubs actively cancel memberships etc of people and ban them from attending games if they play up?

To my knowledge they do, but it'd be practically impossible to police as they could just buy general admission tickets and get in anyway. I assume there'd be some form of facial recognition software in the cameras throughout the stadiums though.

LOL

An OBVIOUS typo. :P

It's not like every other gang out there at all, it's a soccer sporting club gang. There's no such thing as a cricket sporting club gang that goes around beating people up and flipping cars (even though cricket was being played on an international scale during civil unrest in host nations), or needs to be caged in to certain sections of stadiums for their own safety and the safety of others. I worked with a Ajax hooligan for about a year, and he was quite normal, and then he showed me videos of him and his crew setting fire to their own stadium at half time.

We can agree to disagree, but that's as far as I'll go. Soccer seems to breed violence in the crowd. Perhaps in days past they were politically driven and for some reason people find that justified, these days I really can't see any argument to defend the behaviour, and if people aren't defending the behaviour they should at least accept that soccer is the only code that this conduct is rife amongst.

I also maintain the violence is bred from boredom because it's the slowest game in the world.

I'll agree to disagree.

I've mentioned a few times now that I am in no way supporting the behaviour in the slightest. But I disagree that it's the sport. It seems that out of all sports soccer seems to have a lot of this behaviour going on. It is the largest sport in the world, bigger than the Olympics! Of course it's going to be seen as the worst as it is televised everywhere whenever something big or small occurs. What's a "scuffle" in another sport - let's say cricket - is routinely a "riot" in football. Always has been, always will be. Whenever something bad happens it'll be shown everywhere cause fans of the sport are interested in the news behind it all. Do you think that if a riot was sparked by fans watching a chess competition that it will be televised all over the world? I highly doubt it, unless it was to take the piss out of chess.

Slowest game in the world? Man, come on. Unless you are defining 'slowest game' in another way I have not understood? That is completely your opinion, not a fact. I'm not giving people any shit about the following sports whether they play it or watch it, but cricket goes on for DAYS. Chess goes on for HOURS. Curling has a rule that allows you 1 HOUR of discussion time alone. Golf. The list goes on.

At the end of the day I'm just defending the sport I have grown up with that seems to stream in my blood, not the bad behaviour that fans portray every now and then. I love the game and everything about it. Do you not see something odd with Western Sydney Wanderers? Did you hear about any riots before the Wanderers were introduced to the A-League? I haven't.

I didn't hear about it at all until I read the GT.

Slowest in terms of scores. I know they run fast and kick the ball quickly.

Every other sport you mentioned has far more scoring going on.

In golf, which I hate, at least every single individual play has a bearing on the final score.

Curling much the same, they can't just pass the stone to each other.

Cricket? I HATE cricket, but they score in the hundreds and people get out, shit actually happens!

I don't dislike soccer, I watched a few matches on Christmas Eve, and, as Brett was shocked to find out, I played 1st soccer for my school (left wing).

More talking about the sport as a whole Gary, name another sport that has as many riots? Some of the European games get like war zones. Disgusting.
Not saying anything bad about the game on the field, each to their own. But there are problems with the fan base.

Think of all the countries in the world that hold soccer as their national sport. Then think about how many fuckheads there are in the world. Should give you your answer Josh.
Youve got to remember that a lot of these organised fights and riots and shit actually have nothing to do with the game. Its just the thing that ties a bunch of meatheads together.

Sig worthy.

Ah ok, fair enough. It was on the news with the latest shenanigans between the Victory and Wanderers yesterday anyway.

You mentioned cricket. If, in soccer, you received four or six points for every 'goal' than it'd be high-scoring sport as well. Every individual play in soccer has the same result as every play in golf... You've gotta work your way to the goal much like you don't just hit a ball in golf, but you look at the other variables such as wind direction, wind speed and power from the hit to all work in tandem to get you as close to the hole as possible without going over par. We can sit here forever discussing it though.

Haha nope sorry gaz. If that was the case, 6 points per goal. Last nights game would have been 6 all. Still a low scoring game mate.

Point is it'd be a lot higher than it is now... This morning's match between Hull City and Fulham would've been 24-0, or 36-0. Remember back in the day when Australia beat American Samoa? The score was 31-0. If they were all 4's, it'd be 124-0 or if it was all 6's, 186-0.
