    ^Headgasket issues? Nope.

G'day All,

Came across an interesting aesthetic mod that may be more harmful than impressive.

I was wondering if people knew much about tinting headlights and/or tail lights and if they are legal in NSW?

I was only thinking of getting the headlights tinted since anything that affected the reverse lights is deemed illegal.

Looks great, but before I decide, what are your thoughts?

Cheers

P.S apologize for no images of my Impreza, I'm still trying to find time to give it a good pamper first :)

Make sure it's tint film, that can be peeled off anytime. Do it for more show factor, but have it off at night.

Don't like the chrome? Pull your headlights apart and paint bits black. A lot of guys on here have done it.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Its interesting though.

Would the legacy garnishes be deemed 'illegal' as they are darker than standard?

The legacy garnish is deemed illegal because its not Australian standard. This is the shit I went through when I got defected (For other stuff not the garnish). However 99.99% of cops wouldnt notice the legacy garnish.

Because sometimes form > function. Still illegal though.

I reckon tinting the reverse lights looks pretty good and shouldn't get you into trouble assuming its not too dark. Mark did it on his Outback, and I liked it so much I copied it on mine :)

That BMW looks cool. ;)

But at the end of the day, it's illegal. If you wanna take the risk then go for it, but if you do get pulled over I just hope he/she is lenient enough to just tell you to take it off there and then.

I just did the golf tail lights with vinyl tint film. There's varying degree's of darkness and these look exactly like the darker red R32 tail lights now. Illegal.... maybe, but I dont reckon a cop would pick it at all as its not too dark. Can get a pic tomorrow as Ive only done the tailgate lights and ran out of film.

10 seconds to peel off if need be.

I put the red vinyl overlays on my 08 impreza, never had a problem from police. Most people don't even realise they are overlays.

Yeah red would be fine. The issue is more with going black.

What about aftermarket lights that are dark, but still allow the light to show through clearly?

Such as the Hanabi taillights I have on my wagon? As far as I know, they meet the Australian Standard. I've had police behind me and have had no problems whatsoever. I did have to get specific indicator bulbs that shine orange as the Hanabi taillights don't have orange reflectors.

I am talking about Valenti smoked, like on my wagon.

As you can see, they are nice and bright, but could be cop bait.

Still illegal unless they are ADR approved unfortunately.

But I wouldn't have a problem running them if they are plenty bright.
