Hey guys,

First post here so not sure if I'm doing everything correctly to the book so just let me know if I'm not doing things correctly. I own a 2006 2.5L Liberty and I'm looking to add some modifications to the car to try and beef it up.

I'm a bit lost on which exhaust system I should be looking into (cat back, sports mufflers etc), I don't want an exhaust thats overly loud and 'show-offy', just one that adds a nice sound and an awesome look.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers everyone!

Tom

If your after looks, just go for a muffler.

If your after sound, go for UEL (Unequal Length) headers which will give your car that boxer rumble that is synonymous with all WRX's.

If your looking into a catback exhaust, save your money and go for mild steel over stainless.

I will say the same thing that was told to me when I asked virtually the same question (though on a different Liberty; Gen3) and that is, get a nice muffler and save the rest for suspension/handling mods, you will notice every cent spent.

Also it's almost a unanimous opinion that on a NA car you should go no larger than 2.25" for the catback. You could perhaps do a 2.25" catback exhaust, into a 2.5" diffback.

Good luck, and welcome to Subyclub =)

May I also encourage you to post an introduction thread, including pictures of your car, if indeed you plan to stay, something that you will thoroughly enjoy.

Not only are the members very friendly, but this forum platform is very user friendly with lots of features not normally associated with a forum. At least that is from my personal experiences.

The 2.5 has the dual exhaust doesn't it?

Unfortunately, this means the cost increases because there's obviously two muffles you need to buy... Keep an eye out on forums/ebay/gumtree though as they often pop up.

Brands to keep a close watch one - Hitech, Magnaflow, Hurricane, X-Force, Apexi, HKS, MRT (muffler only, they're work is minimal and overpriced!)

Yeah the 2.5 is dual exhaust. I don't mind spending more - looks bloody good with dual exhaust!

I was looking for some Remus exhaust systems because I have a family member who said he loved his Remus exhaust on his Rex but seeing as I have a Lib I don't think Remus will work. Are there any sites that are preferable or just eBay and Gumtree etc?

I'm just struggling to find anything that could really work...most UEL headers are generally for MY95-MY05 or GT models.

I am in the process of purchasing some stainless steel quad mufflers as pictured above from TCP Auto. Tony custom makes them and I've only heard positive things about them. As far as the rest of the exhaust system goes, I am getting the Xforce front muffler and Y-pipe assembly in mild steel from Best Mufflers in Carlton, Sydney.

What kind of price are you looking at for customs?

I checked TCP Auto then and they only stock Impreza and WRX kit, nothing for Liberty's...seems to be the case everywhere I look.

Just get some Borla replica headers of eBay and get your local exhaust shop to install some new rear sports mufflers with some nice tips. If you get real keen get some x-force rear mufflers. No point changing the centre pipe in a N/A.

You might have to double check that the Borla replicas fit a Gen 4.

They cost $600-$650 for TCP Auto ones mate.

He doesn't seem to have them listed on his website at the moment for whatever reason, however on another Subaru/Liberty forum called club.liberty, he has written up a sales topic showing exactly what they are. Here is a link to the topic:

http://forum.liberty...hp?f=43&t=12314

There are many people who have bought these mufflers off him and have made comments on how professional the work is and how good a muffler they are. I have no doubts about it and as I said, I will be buying some off him as soon as I can.

I've had a look for some Borla's josh but they only seem to fit MY95-MY05 models...one year short  :dash2:

Awesome, thanks Liberty ! I'll go and have a chat with him and see what he can do for me. Thanks very much for your help.

I will, just waiting to buy some car cleaning stuff because I just drove 8 hours up north to Byron Bay, so she's looking a little dusty right now. Will get some photos up soon.

Not a problem man. Glad to help out where I can. I've just heard back from him this morning so things are looking good for my mufflers. ;)

Just wondering about the Liberty B4 twin turbo header lengths...are they unequal and is a B4 supposed to sound slightly different than a 2L WRX?
