You get pretty good coin to from what I understand Zaccy so a bit of OT once in a while is probably aight :D

One question though, if they know these releases are going to happen after hours, why do you not start later and just do a normal shift but later in the day

True Nik, fork I hate unions. Corrupt forking things.

My old work apparently had rules so we could only do 14hrs. That all goes out the door when shit hits the fan.

That's why I posted the 'reasonable' circumstances.

If you are required to be there for 22 hours, Zac, the only way they can do that regularly is to admit that you have a VERY VERY high level of responsibility to maintained production. If you get that in writing, you will have no trouble what so ever with either asking for more money, or saying you're going home after normal + reasonable hours if they are unwilling to match whatever the highest paid person in the room is. If it's you.... well... :)

22 concurrent hours is not reasonable in anyone's book.

Anyway.

Each situation is always different, which is why they should just let us sort it out ourselves again.

Yeah man, if I was getting paid OT, I'd be laughing... not feeling so bad about working back today, but its not fun when you get no money for it... and no extra time off or anything...

I do 2hrs OT because it's in my contract. But if I need to leave early for some reason, I sure as shit don't make up the OT!

Especially when we are as quiet as we are and the boss won't pay you if you go home sick 2 hrs early because you are sick :)

True... they know when shite hits the fan, extra hours are needed, and yeah not many people are happy with the after hours release, but it is the only time we can do it for some reason... they are working on it, but with 6 brands now needing to be released, it will start at 5pm and go till midnight or after 1... there was talk this will happen every 2 weeks... so not looking forward to that

I think it is well established by what you have told us that your boss is a total incompetent moron who shouldn't be running a business.

We have same thing but with 12hrs because then all the legal bullshit comes into it. But like you said once the shit hits the fan its all hands on deck.

We had the High speed line at masterfoods( runs for 24 hours a day five days a week and pumps out 600 jars of dolmio/ kantong a minute) go down one night we went in at 8pm that night and didn't leave till 2am the following night, so 30 hours in total.

But we then had a few days of afterwards to make up for it. But when that one line makes them $1,000,000 a day you can see why they needed it running again.

It is a bit like comparing insurance. So many variables, but one blanket legislation that is confusing as all hell to all parties.

I'm always worried when someone recites bars of the FairWork entitlements when they start a job here, not because I don't want to do the right thing, I always do and if I don't it's not in bad faith.

For example; I was sure I could send someone to a paid lunch break as soon as they clocked on, so I was doing so. Instead of approaching me directly, one employee decided she would go straight to the Ombudsman and I got an annoyingly threatening letter stating they have to have worked one full hour before I can 'force' a break.

No worries.

What she didn't count on, was now I have a contact with the Ombudsman, maybe I should find out the correct pay rate and level grading of the work she is doing. She was pretty pissed off about me following the rules when she realised she was going to lose nearly $4 an hour pay.

Bitch.

No, but I did sit her down and show her that legally I am overpaying her, and it is well within my rights by the letter of the law to cut her pay back - SHE didn't get that the point was, it's not always meant to be TAKE TAKE TAKE, otherwise there'll be no job to come to, because we'll go broke! She bled her story to all the other staff, and luckily they weren't so short sighted and realised what I was trying to achieve. So for the next few weeks, the first question an 11am starter had for me was "Would you like me to just take lunch now, so I can hit the ground running for service?"

:)

Out of the three that were around at that time, imagine which two are still here.

LOL.

Yeah you have to wonder about some people Nik. I have done 18 hour hospitality shifts for my mob but get rewarded with awesome food, after work beers, good staff events etc
Not to mention we can usually muck around a little outside of service. Doesn't bother me, that way everyone's happy. Don't know how people can take breaks in the middle of service
