I thought you were pulling the motor?

Overall, probably faster this way.

Check the welch plugs down that side while you have access.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Yeah, bought a hose replacement kit that will replace every water hose at the back of the motor. Was going to pull the motor, but it wasn't too hard getting the plenum off. Big degrease today, and some VHT wrinkle black for whole manifold and rocker cover. Putting it back together, I think I can bin a lot of the hoses that are there as standard, the car pumps coolant through the inlet, which I don't need.

Was the cooling system rusty at all?

Not that I can see. Some very old hoses though, so I suspect one of those is the cause.

I would still be looking at the welch plugs while its apart.

IIRC Nissan use a wax pellet fast idle control to increase idle for a cold engine. This is what the coolant hoses that go to the inlet manifold may be for.

Can't see anything on the diagram.

No 7 should just have intake air, from each side if the throttle plate, going through it.

If it has a water for fast idle, there usually is two 8 or 10mm hoses going up to the throttle body. Some Nissans have the idle control mounted on the manifold so look there as well.

Jase,

20140713_111025_zpsj14ytvvz.jpg

Purple plug is Idle Speed Control and brown plug is FIAA solenoid to bring idle up when air con is on. I'm going to remove the black box, plum the 3 vacumn lines that were connected to it, directly to manifold. All those other lines can be removed too because I will bypass the coolant into-the-manifold shitness and "air regulator" nonsense

What do you lads use to block off old water lines? Does the bolt wrapped in plumbers tape with a hose clamp trick still work?

I see.

Looks like the manifold is heated in two sections.

That is nothing like I expected. I cant see any coolant fast idle thingy.

I would not recommend blocking coolant hoses long term. There needs to be some flow through all parts of the circuit to prevent hot spots. Can you get a 'tee' connector and plumb it in that way?

I guess you will just loop the 8mm hoses that run to both manifold sections?
