I don't think university is bad thing at all, but it certainly isn't the be all and end all.
It is essential if you want to go into a professional field, but unforunately a lot of non traditional degrees are a waste of money, or are only useful with a masters or phd, or simply there is only enough jobs for 5% of graduates.
EG. Engineering, Medicine, Law and Teaching are always going to be jobs, so you can feel safe doing one of those degrees, but it will also require you to be good at your job and studies. I've met many no-hopers who struggled through a degree and now work in a different field due to just being shite.
Now all these other bullshit degrees mean nothing and are just a way for the Uni's to make money. For instance my partner had to do Bachelor of Psychology, which by itself is fairly useless unless you get into a base level social work job, she then needed to do an Honours year, and then a Masters degree to practice.
So in summary, going to Uni for the sake of going to Uni is a waste of time, identifying a career path and ensuring you have what it takes to get there and it can offer you what you want, and THEN going to Uni is win.
