I'm just calculating exactly how much it's gonna cost me for my insurance, get the money aside and see whether I've got any spare dosh for some new plates. ;)

Numberplates?

Don't you have to pay per year in NSW?

Honestly Gaz, I have 3-4 QLD addresses you could register your insurance, CTP and Rego to, would save you at least $1000/yr. I've lived here for 2yrs without changing (not that I changed when I was in NT or VIC either)

That is a crazy amount of savings man, but not a good thing if you are trying to make a claim, is it?

CTP is covered nation wide, and my insurer covers me if I'm interstate. I have a QLD licence so it's easy to say I work in Sydney and had car down here for a few days.

My brother did the same thing for about 7yrs, and still got covered by insurance on some major panel repairs. edit: He got my sister who was QLD based to be a registered operator so he could maintain QLD rego.

I'm not advocating it, but it's quite a contrast in price between QLD and NSW, as I outlined in the CTP thread. The expensive NSW CTP insurance doesn't benefit the driver, it just means knobs who play in traffic will get bigger payouts. And it's also more expensive because the insurers collude to set the price and then RMS okays it, where as in QLD the Transport Dept set the price and Insurers have to come in under that.

edit: I have also seen a marked increase in QLD and SA number plates in my area.

It's going to cost me $282 to order the licence plate now, which is the one-off $275 order fee and $7 pro-rata (the amount calculated between the time I pick up my plates until my vehicle registration renewal date). It will then cost me $99 per year on top of my usual rego to have them, so $438 instead of $339 per year.

I do appreciate the offer, but I don't think it'd be a wise move man. I've never really looked into it to be honest though, however I wouldn't want anything to bite me in the ass if it was to come to making claims and what not...

Mine are personal plates, BB44TT, but I've been playing with the idea of getting them redone as well.

Do you pay the $99 per year even though you bought them on the car initially?

Oh shit! I also saw a B4 this morning, exactly the same blue as yours, but the number plates were MYB004. I was heading into the city from Glebe. It looked to be in good condition, and I think the driver was female. I was in traffic and looking in my rear view mirror to no avail. 'She' wasn't black so it couldn't have been your doppelgänger.

Yup, still got to pay the $99, but I'm used to it, I had personal plates on my Commodore before I sold it, ZAC-84R, so all good, I don't mind the plates now.

I would think the blue is quite standard across the gen3 Libs, but mine is a little diff due to the spoiler :)

Ah ok. It won't bother me as much because next year I'll be 27, so my insurance and green slip will reduce so the savings will easily cover the cost of the plates, and I'll still be on top.

I only saw the car in my rear view so could only see what was going on at the front. Didn't look too bad man. I was hoping he/she would catch up to get a visual of the SubyClub sticker.

Hmmmmm.... I don't see their point? They must have been bored after the rest of Australia got over the budget.

Are you sure you'll be 27 next year? Are you sure this time?

Ha ha, that's bad timing. Any saving is a good saving. I'm predicting at least a couple of hundred.

100%. Only because we had visitors over a week or two ago (whenever that CTP insurance topic was posted) and they asked how old I was turning. I told them 27 and mum had to correct me.

Yes, I feel as much of an idiot now as I did before. :D

And I calculated from my birth year of 1988.
