2.5" is too big for a 2.5i. I've got 2.25" throughout on my EZ30R (6-cylinder).
 
Another place you could look is in the Builds and Projects forum. It's basically where a member posts a topic and actively updates it posting news about recent modifications, plans, etc. Look for a car that would be around your model and see what others have done as an example.

Well considering your car will still be pre 2009 and the oldest thread there is 2011 I'd say you'll be safe.

Sorry bro I am new to the game and don't really understand the difference between a muffler and a canon. Please explain? The threads are a bit old and none of the links work so they don't really give me much

Yeah. Every NA Subaru drones if you just chuck a big muffler/catback on. That's why it's best to go with something quiet unless you go headers.
 
That being said, adding headers to a 2.5i, unless you have some for a cheap price, is an expensive exercise in futility.
 
If you want minimal drone just go a nice oval muffler/s.
