Countdown was a long running Aussie music program, the best actually. Just playing al the latest music, chart music for the time it was, in which case the episode was in December of '86

I'm gonna apply for a few jobs at some banks now. Hopefully something comes of it.

My job is only "secure" until March of this year, after which they have no idea what will happen as there are a new bunch of trainees joining council which will get rotated within the survey department (where I am now) causing my job to become redundant. Unless an official position within council pops up that I am eligible to apply for, I must treat it as if I will be unemployed come March.

 

So this is why you've heard me go on and on about applying for jobs in such random industries and careers. I'm just applying for whatever I am able to apply for, so something that is entry level and/or offers a traineeship/cadetship with certainty about continuing employment after obtaining whatever qualification.

 

I hate doing this. The careers I want to get into aren't offering entry level roles and careers I don't want aren't offering any positions... I haven't gone to Seek or anything yet. That will be my final place to go.

If I pigeon hole myself, how do I know I can't do certain jobs?

I am doing the same. When I say 'whatever I am able to apply for', I mean jobs that have requirements that I do not meet I will not apply for especially if they're obvious such as specific qualifications, etc. There is no point in applying for management roles unless you meet those requirements.

I've just never had any luck doing so. I've only had one managerial type role when I worked in retail (my first job). I was there for five years and on numerous occasions I was the stand-in manager when the manager was sick, managing another store or whatever the case may be. I don't know whether it would count for managerial roles in more professional enterprises.

 

Time for bed.

 

I'm working about 10 minutes walk away from home tomorrow which is awesome! One of the three main surveyors at council is in charge of external work that makes money for council and the surveying department. I'm with him tomorrow doing a job for Rockdale City Council.
