Looks like I'm gonna go with another option that meets in the middle and means my car can be fixed one street away.
What's the process involved with notifying my insurance and the RMS of a new engine in my car? Because it's the same engine it shouldn't clash with anything but engine numbers and stuff right?

Nah you shouldn't need a Compliance Certificate because it's the same engine.

If the place putting the new engine in can do blue slips they should just do the engine number change as part of the job. Otherwise take it to any blue slipper with proof of purchase and they can do the number change
