Yes. I could live with that. I'd also be able to track it while working my way up to a big boy car.
Also, Boxster Spyder is ****...

Yea it happend to my mate who has a MY99 RX.
I've just heard for the Gen2 it is 'when', but for everything else, it's an 'if'.
Fortunately I looked after my Gen2 and it never happened.
HG's can fail in any car. I just never thought Subaru's from 01 onwards were known for it...

I should remember to include information like this in other areas rather than just the general thread

******* hearsay
FFS.
No, Subaru have not just started using MLS gaskets..where did he get this bull **** from?
and porche using graphite coated gaskets because they are better? wtf
firstly, EJ25D (Quad cam) or Double over head as the "D" stands for... was the first to have the issue, as far as a internal combustion>coolant leak, this was from a OEM single layer graphite composite gasket..
secondly, they release a revised gasket for them which is MLS(multi layer steel) in 2004 i think it was, but dont hold me to that.
EJ25 (in gen3 rx's which is a SOHC engine) experiences external coolant DRIP from the headgasket, this is not as problematic as in EJ25D, as it does not cause issues unless the engine is driven dry, PLENTY of people have continued to drive them like that just topping them up as need be, and they are fine.
the reason subaru have not been required to do a re-call or anyting like that is it is concidered reasonable the time the engines last without needing the HG replaced.. usually upwards of 150,000kms
FFS a mates parents A class had to have its CVT tranny replaced at 80,000kms and it was not under warranty, it is apparently normal for them to die at that amount (do a google search for A class CVT Failure) this again is concidered reasonable (there is a legal term for how long **** should last for its price but i cant remember it right now.. gone blank)
also.. with the Gen3's its only some that have the issue, if good coolants were not used... that is what caused the issue, a gen3 RX's serviced at subaru or someone who is close to subaru shouldn't have the issue for long time as they had a bulliten that was put out and revised the services to include a "Coolant conditioner" this was only for gen3RX's as the gasket failure was of a different nature than why EJ25D's failed..
i cant be stuffed typing any more about it.. but i know a shitload about this subject cause i researched the **** outta it when mine went, and working at SubaBits i got the ins and outs of it from a few EX Subaru Australia MECHANICS not just Fitters but the QUALIFIED MECHANICS that worked there.. Which there is usually only 1 per dealership.. just so you know.
it was never issued to them to hide the fact or lie about it.. but they were advised to explain it is NOT a warranty service claim due to the product being reasonable quality/reliability for the price/age. again i cant remember the actual term.. but yeah thats about it...
go to town on that illinformed knobster.
