Wagon looks super shiny, Commodore spec rims make me vomit and dont do the car justice.

I was going to buy some 3.0R wheels until I found out earlier this week that the head gasket is starting to go :( So they will have to do for a little longer.

Does $2500 to get it repaired sound reasonable?

If someone else is doing it then thats pretty normal.

I got a complete engine with 140,000kms on it with everything replaced ie new timing belt, water pump, seals, 4 layer metal headgaskets, sparkplugs, etc from AMAuto to my door for $2900 when my headgaskets went.

Swapped it over in a day.

Just something else to consider. I know this engine will now far outlast my ownership of the car.

That is definitely a option I will consider but my current engine only has 102 000km on it and has only just had it's major 100k service so it really doesn't need all those parts.

Is it worth just buying the gaskets and bolts and giving this a go myself with the help of a few mates? I have an engine hoist and engine stand already.

This afternoon I had the car checked over by a Subaru specialist mechanic who told me it hasn't got a head gasket problem :yahoo:
A cracked oil filter was causing it drop oil and a worn thermostat gasket was causing it to drip coolant onto the plastic engine protector. So knowing the engine is in good health I will be throwing it on Car Sales.

Happy days.

I get my full licence next month and I sort of want to upgrade. A few of my mates have upgraded to XR6Ts and XR8s and I really want one too now. Only thing holding me back is that I really do love this car.

That is another option I am considering, I would love a white Forester XT.

I might just keep this for a while longer and see how much money I have left for a new car after the snow season finishes.

Don't get an XR6t, they are utter shit.
In terms of power, they are quite mind boggling for a stock car (skids at 110km/hr with traction control?!) but they're a Posted Image'ing horrible car. Build quality is terrible, comfort is terrible, the engine is lazy and unresponsive. If you want to rip through tyres real quick, go for it. But going from a Subaru to an XR6 is a huuuge step down in terms of quality IMO.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

I agree that BA/BF Falcon's are not the best quality car on the market but I need something that is able to easily tow 1200kg with 5 people in it. I am more interested in a VY SS over a BA XR6T, they seem to be made a little better than the Falcon and have a 6 speed manual as opposed to the 5 speed manual of the early BA's.

Would a Forester XT be able to tow around 1200kg with 5 people in the car? Or would it be pushing it a bit hard?

I've only had 5 people in the XT once and I won't do it again unless I really have to! Power isn't a problem but it's so squishy!

With a 1200kg boat behind it, it would struggle a little I imagine!

Suspension wasn't the problem.. there's a severe lack of leg room in the back seats!

I have been offered $10 500 for my car, does this seem like a reasonable price for a 2001 model with 103 000kms?

Thanks

Take it!!! You'd be lucky to sell a Rev ABC Gen 3 for more than $8k these days!
