Well the inspector said the boot was split, but the joint was fine... don't know how it works... I want to fix it... but nobody will do it ASAP... Its the inner CVs too, so people are saying its more work for them and they don't have time... too busy...How can they be split and fine and the same time? Just get them fixed already! You procrastinate more than Adam!

joints them selves can be undamaged, but the boot that surrounds them is split and flicking stinky sticky grease all over the placeHow can they be split and fine and the same time? Just get them fixed already! You procrastinate more than Adam!
Seriously though, replacing a boot is a piss easy job and wouldn't take the bloke more than 30 mins if he was asleep and probably drunk at the time.

Guess I'll keep looking then... nobody is free or has the time to do it... but oh well... will expand my radius of mechanics...joints them selves can be undamaged, but the boot that surrounds them is split and flicking stinky sticky grease all over the place

I visit NSW at least once a year and usually pass my eye over my friends cars; I'm always surprised by what is ignored during a rego check.

I was talking about the boot, boot is split, boot is not fine. Pretty straight forward.

What if a person keeps a car for 10 years? or even 5, a lot can go wrong during that time.I get that Josh but what is wrong with testing for sale of vehicles rather than yearly?

Haha. Im out of practice.Jase will do it during smoko for you if you want. could probably knock it over in about 10 mins.
I don't replace boots anymore, just not worth it when you compare the cost against a change-over shaft.

Jase? Sorry, don't know everyone on here by first name yet...Jase will do it during smoko for you if you want. could probably knock it over in about 10 mins.
Plus, I'm in Western Sydney, working in the city while the car is back at home...
Ahhh cool.. yeah I think that is what other mechs might be thinking... effort for inner CV boots, not worth it... might as well do the whole shaft and charge more... which could be why I'm getting stuffed around...Haha. Im out of practice.

Agreed but how much of that is safety related? I agree there needs to be a system to maintain the safety of vehicles used on the roads but testing for rego seems to be the wrong way to go about it.What if a person keeps a car for 10 years? or even 5, a lot can go wrong during that time.
Looking at cars between the two states, I couldn't say if one averages safer cars than the other.

Wow... I wouldn't mind that... but I got quoted 590 fr a reco'd shaft replacement... and even then, they won't fit me in til next week... so I guess car will have to be off the road when rego runs out
