Yea, I didnt mind the drives up the mountains either. Had 3 very sketchy/scary moments in the leggy, but survived 
I guess if you've lived on a mountain, ski in, ski out you probably would think differently about driving up the mountain.

They had the winter Olympics there Bump. Also, not as touristy as Niseko (on Hokaido)

I had two pretty damn average seasons by NZ standards. Second time round was heaps slushy. Nice mountains, but yeah, snow was nothing to write home about on either of my visits.
