Oh... Yea, don't try that hey.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

Are there any vacuum lines running beneath the intake manifold on the passenger side near the BOV? I want to check those first.

Only the fuel pressure reg on the fuel rail and any lines going to the factory boost control.

remove the manifold spacers
you're doubling the chance of a gasket failure and the possibility of the (now 4) mating surfaces not being properly flat

I plan to take off the intercooler, block off the throttle body and retest. If the leak is from the manifold it should be easy to spot with the intercooler out of the way.

I think you can see why I'm unhappy.

Bloody intake is cracked.

Where abouts are you in this lovely country Luke? May have a spare in the shed. What revision are you running also?

Here's a photo of the smoke machine. You can also see it in action in the dropbox link on the previous page.

Simple but effective. Did fill the garage with a foul smell though.

Bugga. I have a rev d one but it's earmarked for the Melbourne track machine. The spare I may have had would have been an a-c one. Likely too many differences. Unless I unbolt all the bits off and send you the manifold? Probably looking about 70 bucks plus post. Shouldn't take me more than about an hour to strip it all off down to a bare manifold.

More thinking unbolting all the bits off the rev d one. Sorry, reread that post and saw I didn't explain that too well.

Ah i get ya.

Wonder if the manifold tore while bolting it back over the spacers?

Not sure Jimbo. Likely my own fault.

I remember not fully removing that bolt at one stage and lifting it up and realizing I hadn't got it out. Might have put sufficient force on it then...

I have found a rev e manifold. Should I get new gaskets? These ones have only been on a few weeks.

for the cost of a few bucks,
get new gaskets

while all that jazz is off, go over every square mm of intake and vacuum piping

and super-clean those gasket surfaces.

At least now you can smoke test before firing up again.

Troubling, both sides of the intake manifold were cracked in the same fashion around the back bolts. Makes me worried that I could break my new intake too.

How tight should I go with the manifold bolts?

I have to wait for a new throttle body gasket to arrive. Mine fell apart during the swap over. Over $40 for a simple gasket...*sigh*.

FSM says 25Nm.

I'd be careful with the sequence, too. Treat it like a cylinder head and torque up gradually.
