Are you leaving out the spacers..?

Also, sit a straight edge across the manifold and heads to make sure they are all perfectly flat, etc

Just had a thought...

I know the intercooler had been hitting against the back firewall. What's the likelihood this could put enough shock/pressure through the top of the manifold to pull/crack it from the head?

Oh, and I was planning to leave the spacers in.

Not likely with the silicone joiner, that would take the flex.

fork off with your spacer hoodoo, Rob.   As if spacers will fork a manifold.

Thinking too much here, Luke. Your IC to Throttlebody joiner looks huge. Trim it back a bit. Most likely banging on the pitch mount area and in particular the gearbag earth bolts there.

And WTF would you know about shit?

Off chops

I've got spacers in my car
Just put them in my new car

Never caused me any issues

Along as both mating surfaces are flat they will be fine

I wasn't thinking about the shock transferring through the pipe, but rather the IC mounting bracket that bolts directly to manifold. Though that sounds silly saying it out loud.

if they're not an even thickness from one bolt hole to another,
there's every possibility that when you torque it down, you will put pressure on the manifold in exactly the places it's broken.

have a think about it..... Physics Yo..!

Fair point, but the spacers appear to be perfectly flat and even.

Looking at those spacers and what they did to the manifold, get rid of them.

With such a thick gasket, you loose the strength in the manifold that is provided by the cylinder head when tho bolts are torqued down.

Seems to me they cause more troubles than the benefits they provide. (I'm guessing heat soak into the manifold?)

I don't have a torque adjustable wrench so I probably over tightened and due to the flex in the spacers cracked it that way.

It feels like such a waste to just ditch them after paying for them. I'm in two minds.

Either estimate it (25Nm is 2.5kg with a 1m lever arm, or 10kg on a typical 200mm socket wrench), or buy a cheapo.  I think supercrap have some $60 ones.
