So my front right brake pads are on the warning springs. As I'm new to owning this car, or any car, I want to learn as much as possible about fixing and maintaining it.

So does anyone have any tips or tricks with replacing the front brake pads for an 02 Impreza?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pads are a great place to start with learning about fixing and maintaining your car. It's an easy job. Do you have all your equipment & tools? If you can be bothered driving up to Stockton I'd be happy to help you swap your pads over. 30mins tops.

Otherwise, just follow the workshop manual.

Pretty easy, really.

Take your wheels off (have car on stands first, just sayin'), then undo the bottom caliper bolt and hinge the caliper away from the disc. Remove the pads and install new ones then bed them in. It's recommended too, if you can, to have the rotors machined. Best to have new pads and disc surface, otherwise, the disc surface will be "worn" into the old brake pad and you can risk cooking your new pads.

For what it's worth it might be more simple and convenient to just replace the rotors at the same time. Being an MY02 N/A they are probably still the originals anyway. Unless of course your service records state otherwise.

I'm going the other way here. Unless you are confident in your mechanical skills, I'd be watching someone who knows what they are doing first.

Get it wrong and you will be having a bad day.
