Could probably be done Jase, pretty sure most of that system is electronics and hydraulic bits. Not sure how much difference there is pedal wise

Hill holder is all mechanical/vacuum. At least in a gen 2. Would need a 3 port master cylinder and the matching brake lines/prop valve.

Just read the manual Jase, Hill Holder system is completely mechanical. Page 3299+ of the Gen 3 FSM. Theres 3 pages of diagrams and instructions. Doesn't look like it would be overly difficult to retro-fit, but I know they got rid of them for a reason, a family friend had constant issues in his 05 forester with it.

 

Still no real updates per say. New house will be available in a week or so, so I'll probably wait until I can get into the shed and use a bench to do the calipers, but next break will likely be used to move the crap from the storage shed to the new house, so not sure whether it will happen next break either. Found the box that the braided STi lines were in yesterday while looking for other stuff in the shed, so they'll make their way onto the car when I get the brakes changed.

Interesting, I never had issues on the Gen III. Ex still has it and its been really reliable.

 

I had a feeling they were mechanical, just a valve with a lever mounted in the brake line.

Yea, I never had issues with the RX that had it also. But there must have been reasons they removed them across the board.

So, while moving stuff in the shed today, I found some old fog covers from the oem front bar from my old B4. Looks much better, not great, but like the rear bar, much nicer.
Needs a wash of course... they've been in storage for the better part of 10 years lol

Had a secondhand ABS module out of a manual Gen3 arrive today that Nick pulled out at a wreckers a week or 2 back. Hopefully will fit it off later this week, perhaps tomorrow depending on how the latest house reno goes...

Pulled the ABS module apart yesterday, and then realised that I'd have to pull the airbox off, and a whole heap of other bits and bobs to manage to lift the module up high enough to undo the screws that hold the electronics to the pump. Gave up as it was bloody hot in the shed. Will change it over next break once I have the time to do it properly. Something else to note after reading the manual, the actual pumps are different between auto and manual. I'll still only change the electronics out on this car, but I'll keep the pump handy to go into the gen 2 track car.

Realistically, not much happened with cars this week. Been working on the house flat out.

Gen3 Hill hold - here's how to remove it. "Installation is a reversal ... etc"

 

You need another arm on the clutch pedal, a bowden cable, a hill hold hydraulic doo-hicker, and some brake lines. Maybe all that stuff can be transplanted from a gen3 to 4

So, the new bumper finally rocked up after lots of toing and froing with import monster (delays were on me and covid, nothing to do with import monster). Paint is significantly worse than my current bar (somewhat my fault for buying the cheapest I could find), but it did come with all the parts that mine was missing, including the revered revision E fog light covers. Colour isnt a perfect match, but its better than missing bits, so I'm pretty happy. Pic to come.

Also, if anyone has a cheap set of manual pedals to suit the gen3 or gen2, please let me know. Dont want to pay much if I can help it. Getting sick of the cut down auto brake pedal snagging my foot as I push the clutch in.

Grr. Imgur has made it hard to get the links for photos uploaded... so its now been uploaded here again... new photo of the front with all the Rev E plastics. Excuse all the bugs and crap, its been a few weeks since it was washed last. Paint colour on the tow point isn't the same, but beggers can't be choosers, and I ain't getting the daily shitter resprayed.

 

Looks a shitetonne better than it did before...

 

 

Other than this, bugger all has happened on the car front.

Yea, it's not overly bad, but I would have preferred to get a blue one. It's a bit hit and miss as to what's available in Japan. Just so happens that the silver didn't look half bad. I've had one of the superintendents at work give me a bit of shit about it until he realised that it wasn't a statement, I just couldn't be arsed painting it.
At the end of the day, it works, so I'm not fussed about the colour. If it was baby shit yellow, I probably would have, but hey. The whole conversion on this car cost me the price of the bonnet basically, so I'm not doing to bad.

I somewhat run under dad's thinking. If you can replace 'car' with 'lawn mower' and it still makes sense, do it. So it doesn't get washed very often! Hahaha

Sweet! Just looking at Yahoo, and found a complete manual pedal with bracket for a grand total of 100 yen, buy it now. Done. One less problem for this little beastie.
