Well the L&E adaptor didn't work. They sent me a GC/gen 2 one. I'm going to see if a gen 2 steering column will do in a gen 3 but I suspect it won't. Likely move forward is to sell the quick rack and pick up a 2.7 GC8 rack. It'll do the job just fine and get.mlve over this speed bump

Quick rack and associated bits sold, to a guy locally in Bacchus thankfully for a quick sale.

GC8 WRX rack acquired from a mate and will go back together in the original legacy subframe etc. Ordered all the bits to refresh it from Partsouq and some other goodies while i was in there. Unlikely theyll arrive this week but i can do them once the rack is in the car

Sounds like a good outcome with a quick turn around Barbs. Gotta be happy with that!

Cheers

Steering setup is finally sorted

GC8 2.7 rack, stock legacy subframe and steering knuckle. Was lucky enough to find super pro steering rack bushes in the legacy subframe so saved myself some coin there.
jwnYFX2.jpg

Due to going back to the Legacy subframe from the GD i needed the narrower inner lower control arm bushes. Ordered some Superpro ones from Sparesbox, no updates for 5 days so gave up and got some Nolathane poly ones from Repco 15 mins up the road lol. Drop shipping just doesnt work these days.

With the front suspension back together i could finally get the car pushed out of the shed to clean the engine bay.

Bay was super gross. Lots of road grime and a bit of dusty surface rust starting under the brake booster somehow

Got stuck in with the Orange Agent and some brushes. Unfortunately my pressure washer has decided to not work so lots of scrubbing and just hosing but it came up pretty good.
McLzv2q.jpg

Rust has been scuffed back and primered/quick squirt of white.

Also picked up a set of RE003s for the Rays.

Waiting on the bits to arrive to refresh the rack

Looking good Barbs. And Kong is either jealous he’s not building a Subi like this atm or he’s preparing to be a judge at some Subi feat get together :P

Steady progress as usual!

Cheers

The new back seat finally arrived. Purchased sometime in september and arrived last week on the container (along with 3 other containers meant to arrive a month apart, IM is flat out)

Thankfully is the correct matching seat for my fronts and no hidden surprises. Happy as

Managed to snag a few hours this weekend without it being stinking hot or having something else to do

Engine is finally back in.
BfFkE5Y.jpg

Didnt fight me too much just the usual solo struggles. Replaced the rear main seal which was an absolute *****. Had 3 new ones as i always ordered multiple incase i fork it up, which i did, twice. Luckily the last one went in properly. No pics of that cos its boring.

My partsouq ordered arrived with the steering rack bits and other bits and bobs. Managed to get a brand new power steering bracket, because i could

Date on the bag is from 2005 haha

Nice work on everything, love the back seat.

Yep, hard not to just 'fork it, why not' when shopping at Partsouq!

Got a few bits and bobs connected up to the engine. Was farken hot so just easy stuff like radiator and accessories.

Threw the intercooler and intake on for some glamour shots

Could you try twisting the radiator back into shape?

Possibly. Dont want to risk forking it though. Maybe next time its out for whatever reason

Nothing really to show but got a few hours work done this weekend.

Starting with the turbo

On a garrett the core is held into the turbine housing by 6 bolts on a "flange". These bolts generally protrude into the exhaust scroll itself so the bolts hold the core in and plug these holes.

The turbine housing i got (for free) had a boogered hole from what looks like someone removing the mounting bolt with a punch
boItLa5.png

At the time i figured 5 bolts will hold the core in, she'll be right. Cut to however many weeks later when i realised yeah thatll be a huge exhaust leak straight into the coolant hose. Nice. Thankfully turbo came back out super easy. Managed to file down the smashed in bit and there was enough happy thread that i got a bolt in and all sorted.

While the turbo was out I had to change the power steering lines to the OEM GC8 hardlines. My AN high pressure hose was too short as the GC8 ports are in different spots to the GD rack. Normally changing PS lines with the engine in is a bit of a no no as its super easy to strip out the alloy rack but with the turbo out i could at least see what was happening so stuck with it. Not the worst job but lots of jamming hands in tight spaces and hand threading. Dont have any pics for now though.

Last thing i did was dig out my old GC8 style turbo bracket as the BBOD idea wasnt appealing to me anymore. Plus i like having more GC parts in a later model car lel

What’s the mod plate for Barbs, the twin turbo conversion that was done at some point in time?

That bolt hole wasn’t what I was expecting!

Not sure.

Its factory twin turbo, no conversion. Could have come in with an exhaust or something back in the day maybe
