Just curious if anyone here (Oz) has done what these guys have done? What does it end up costing at the end of the day.... Car + Agent fee + shipping fee, then when it gets here - import fee? Customs release etc.?? If the car was available in an AUDM spec, how much more/less would a JDM import of the same model be? Or is it more suited for people with deep pockets to bring in models that aren't available here??

Hi, If the model isn't available here there are many issues after the buying of the car. Cars not sold here have not been ADR approved. Though it works strangely, because if you try to import an STi Forester yourself, it is much harder because according to Australia the cars equivelant is sold here... Just do it mate. Cheers, Nik

Car prices are normally cheaper, and the JDM models are much higher spec than the models they export to other markets. If you compare the JDM Legacy to the European version its like comparing a donkey to a racehorse..

There is site called tradecarview check it out and it will give you some idea of the prices.
I know your import laws are much stricter than over here so i dont know what you will have to do to import a car from Japan. Over here its easy, there are no restrictions, you can pick a car and a local Jap dealer here will bring it in for you. Once it passes its NCT test which makes sure its roadworthy you are fine..

Thanks Eric,

That site is easy to get lost in.... so many cars..... although looking at Legacy B4's it appears 90%+ are auto's :(
Having said that they are generally $5K-$10K (AU$) cheaper that what they cost here.
Shipping quotes range from $1K-$2K for stand alone or container shipping respectively.
If it doesn't cost more than $3K to get it released from customs then you'd have to be in front, and have a higher spec. ride! B)

I wouldn't say that,

The JDM may of had an extra 16kw's but the AUDM had a much better interior, and definately looked a lot better

Actually Walts.

Wrong again.

The JDM BE5 had a plain Black leather interior.
The JDM BE5 looks about the same, but with the extra little JDM inclusions, makes it better.

Let's not forget the JDM S401.

Game Over.

I'm with Tom on this (with the exception of the S401 and the front bar).

Performance wise, isn't it all the same hardwear? AUDM just need a tune.

Black/blue leather is fucken awesome if you ask me.... I love it.

IMHO it's the nicest std interior of any Liberty (flame away, you won't change my mind).

Performance wise, yes, the mechanical hardware is pretty much the same as the JDM Etune2 + S401 + blahblahblah. But the JDM cars get a whole bunch of stuff the AUDM never did. Like HID's Folding mirrors Heated seats And a whole spec of features, which sure doesn't sound like terribly much, and sure, you can live comfortably without them, but it makes it all a little more special... Almost as special as Tom. But without the special bus. Or the bib. Or the incontinence pads.

Love this show:

Enjoy

Quality episode that! :)

Wish they ended up getting the GT-B but you can't blame them for settling on the Fozza.

Makes me want to go to Japan now...

Looking forward to the rest of the series - I'm only just getting into this Mighty Mods business and am loving it!

BTW - not a fan of the AUDM B4 blue leather. I agree with Alex, the JDM B4 (RSK) seats are much much better....
