Thanks for pointing that out Buzzspotter
I will keep an eye on it.
FIL has installed scores of kitchens and one would think he knew what he was doing.
Unfortuantely we can only use what was left there for us from the old kitchen but we'll see how we go...

Anybody ever used one of these?

hydraulic pipe bender

Do they bend the pipes with just minor kinks or are they just completely useless?
I just want to use it rig up a 'rough draft' of some intake pipes and exhaust manifold. Get the design right before getting an expert to make some nice ones

Yes.

Looking at the dies, it will only bend round bar/pipe.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Need new intaking piping to suit hybrids + FMIC. Is a different design though so would like to make some rough drafts to get the design right first before getting it made properly. Will want to do the same thing for ex mani too

Edit: shouldn't need to bend anything greater than 50mm ID

That should bend 50mm tube(depends on the size of the dies) but the bends will be a slightly smaller ID.

Could you buy various mandrel bends instead?

I wrang the tool shop from that link and he said it would probably crush really thin walled pipe. They do come with different sized dies.

I might ring a few steel shops and see if they sell any mandrel bends.

Ta Buzzda
Just had a squiz at the yellow pages and there is actually a category for tube bending with one shop just around the corner. I'll take some rough measurements tonight of what I might need and give them a call tomorrow too. Some handy stuff in that webstore though.

Hi,

Haha, it's a good idea. But I was actually moving stuff into the shed before they'd even finished the flashing. I am so desperate for the space it's not funny. It's a nice size though - now to fill it up with crap!

Cheers,
Nik

In terms of piping - Get some donuts - rings of pipe. Cut out the angle you need, weld, walla! you have the exact bend you need, providing you can handle a welder properly :P

Particularly useful for those pesky exhausts that have oddball bends. Like ours. And if its cleaned up properly, looks cool too.

This is most definitely the best thread ever.

Cheers,
Ben

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it. In process of being stripped and sold off.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon. Scrapped.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. Scrapped.

MY13 BRG, current daily, very nice to drive, small mods to make it even nicer again.

I've always been quietly jealous of your property Morgs. Love it.

Sucks the Outback hasn't got a home though. I cry myself to sleep if my B4's not parked in the garage. :P
