any auto electrician will be able to clean fuel injectors. should be paying $20-$30 per injector (you take them out).

I can Clean them if you like.. New O-rings, Filter basket, Bathe in Ultrasonic fluid, Check spray pattern before and after clean, in different Pulsewidths etc, etc.. If you cant find anyone local. PM me if interested, I would check your connection to the injector first, The plug may have been corroded or filled up with dirt or foreign particles, Give it a hit with some contact cleaner, and see how you go. if problem persists i would then swap the injector with number 1, and see if the code appears again, if its still reading #3, the plug or wiring has a fault. If it has changed to #1, then the injector is faulty. How does the car run?

Thanks for the great info Lance, i will check all the plugs tomorrow morning.
The car runs fine, just a little splutter here and there at idle and only running about 90% top end (where the CEL flashes on)
If i can't find anyone else to do it, i will definitely keep you in mind.

Read the codes a while ago, it said "Fuel Injector Number 3" and i explained it to Sean at S&J (the master) and he said it's a common problem with the B4's and he said they need to be cleaned or replaced.

did sean say much more about this?

i still have trouble with pinging sometimes in the b4, even after the ecutek 2. i always wondered if it was one injector being blocked causing a leanout on one particular cylinder, as the dyno would have showed it if all cylinders were lean.

Hey Zanzarah, did you take your injectors out yourself and just give them to them? or did they do all the work?
and do you know a rough price? Cheers

Shut up Chad :P My work's on Magill Road Norwood/Stepney, same thing ;)

He said:
"Hi Tom, we have seen this in a few B4’s now, yes the injector islikely to be faulty, and from experience I would recommend the replacement ofall 4, can do a set of low km 05 STI ones fitted for $950, includes 2 yearwarranty. This is important to address soon as it can lean out and damage theengine mate!"

Another quote from a Trusted Auto Electrical Place: $6.50 per Injector lol and they can remove and replace, but they didn't say how much. But it's a bit far from home, so i'm not sure if i'll get it done there.

At that price all they would do would be an on car flush-useless.

With an ultra sonic clean you should get a before and after report on spray pattern and volume delivered.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

let me know what they say about it. i might get mine done. even if i do a single turbo conversion with a new motor, cleaned/flow tested 565cc injectors will come in handy :)

from memory Mildren's charged me $20 per injector a few years back.

I looked at the one around the corner from work and it's about 30 bucks per injector (includes fuel rail) cleaning and testing. But i need to take them out myself and put them back in myself, not really what i wanted to do but i might have to give it a crack.

Ok, i'm gonna do remove/replace them myself now.

I have the work shop manual but is there any tricks or tips i might need to remove them? Will fuel go everywhere?

depressurise the fuel system first (pull the fuel pump fuse while the car is running, let it die, crank it until it stops spluttering).

fuel will spill out but it's not much and it will evaporate. just don't drop a match in it!

make sure you fit new o-rings and seals top and bottom of injector.

haven't pulled the injectors on the passenger side myself, but the drivers side is a little fiddly with the coolant reserve tank there. i managed to get mine out without draining the coolant, there was enough movement in the rubber hoses to the reserve tank.

That reserve tank was a ***** when I did mine. Put a tiny bit of rubber grease on your o rings when you chuck them back in, makes it much easier, and less chance you'll tear one. Make sure the place that does it can also check coil resistance too, older cheaper machines don't, but the better ones do. Can be a way to tell if one will pag out soonish
