Really I think manual and auto comes down to personal needs, a good auto box will perform in a straight with quick changes, but a manual gives more performance around the clock, but traffic+manual= a fist through your windscreen. I like the slackness of Auto, but i like the new tiptronics on the MY08's, its fun to just drive like a manual every now and then when there's no traffic, I was speaking to some Subaru boys about retro fitting the system for a mate, they can't see why it wouldn't work, so might be an option. Can't say it'd fcuk your console more than it already is haha :P . Looks like the car from back to the future with that box......"push the time jump button Doctor" Nick

If thy tint is dark and thy wheels are black thou car be declared b11tchin'

So you can run it on 6psi with an rx fuel pump? :P

Thanks for your input mate! Well i normally sit through about an hour of traffic each way to and from work which would suck but i just bought an apartment around the corner from work so that's not an issue anymore. i think i'm gonna get a second car too coz i really need a wagon for the surfboards and going to the snow etc etc

Pretty sure i need to do this conversion.

Ha, Snow=Liberty Wagon, Outback, Foz......I couldn't believe, the first time I went to the Snow, the amount of Soobs in Jindy, the place is Subaru Mekkah. Thinking of picking up a GEN II/III RX wagon? I've seen a fair few around going cheap as chips down your way. Well sounds like manual then, I'll have to find another Guinea pig for a tiptronic install. Nick

Forget traffic. The benefits of a manual far outweigh the disadvantages IMO.
How come you're wanting to dumb the giant shifter already and go for manual though?

Ha, Snow=Liberty Wagon, Outback, Foz......I couldn't believe, the first time I went to the Snow, the amount of Soobs in Jindy, the place is Subaru Mekkah.

Hell yeah. The lancer boys don't like it when you crack an AWD burnout next to them while they're fitting snow chains either...

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

haha yeah that whole shifter thing is a stupid story anyway... My mum doesn't have her own car so sometimes needs to borrow mine which was fine until i decided i wanted to do a conversion. In the end we decided to go with the auto gtb coz she could drive it but i'd have sport shift as well. We were discussing options for making it as drivable for me as possible and thought doing a ratchet shift could make it a bit more fun while still easier for her (to old and stubborn to learn manual). We'd be losing the full auto function as all shifts would now need to be manually done but mum reckoned she'd be fine with it. So once it's all done she doesn't like and refuses to drive it. She bought a gen 3 gex sedan and left me with this thing...what a f**k around It drives fine and feels ok but it's just not really what i want. Looks pretty dodge and can be pretty loud. We actually have a spare gtb box for parts so if anyone wants to buy an auto with ratchet shift with lots of spares let me know :D I've been driving it as an auto for three years and kinda forgot how much better a manual can be. When i bought my manual vectra (the car i got cheap while the conversion was being done), it was just fun booting it about and after getting the suby back it just isn't the same. Pretty much as soon as i got it back i knew i'd f**ked up and then when mum said she didn't want to drive it i was spewing... not that re-sale is gonna be much anyway but i reckon that'd be a hard sell with that in too. Gonna look into a six speed but i don't think i can afford it at the moment...
