Has anyone tried this Gen 1 Header retro fit on a Gen 3 yet?? I am very keen to do this.. my gen 1 i bought had an exhaust on it and it sounded great! this would explain why... and sure beats waiting for an ebay delivery!! in my logic they look more efficient cause they are shorter... and only have 1 Cat... hope to hear from someone who has managed it soon! jon

I tried on my RS impreza as mentioned in the first post they don't line up. Sam with the outback got some eBay ones and loves them, if your really after the sound their the best way to go.

I have my doubts they will bolt up to a gen3, but happy to be proven wrong and being almost 20years old now you can bet the cats have seen better days. You can get the eBay ones cheap if enough if you look around.

If someone does do this or has some NA exhuast videos please post in this thread.

Hey jon.

The eBay headers do give the boxer note, but they sound tinny once fitted.
I have been told that exhaust heat wrap will make the tinniness disappear but is a bad idea on mild steel (like mine) as the steel will rust quickly or something along those lines.

When I took my car to get the exhaust re-aligned, I asked the bloke if heat wrap would be a good idea and he said no (because of the above reason), but ceramic coating inside and out would do the same thing but is expensive.

I think Alex on here disagreed with that though so I'm not entirely sure.

I do like them on my outback, but it sounds nothing like a wrx.

Hopefully that gives you a bit of an idea.

Sam

cheers guys....
i have found a set for 50bucks... so i am just gunna grab em and see if they fit... cant be too much hassle i'd say yeah?? and what would you think about just punching out the cats?? WA is pretty good for being slack on vehicle checks.. and if it looks like one is there i'm sure they'll just assume one is there lol...

maybe i am being dumb... but for $50 it cant hurt really... if that fails i'll just offload em and get me the ebay ones... which i have been looking at for a while now...

Sounds good!
Dunno about the cats though, I have 2 in mine now since I swapped the headers over.

Have you got a thicker at back exhaust?
2.25 is a good size if not. Mines 2.5" and goes into 2.25 closer to the diff.

If i did things again i would have painted my headers in heat proof paint, and given them as many coats as i could, and then i would heat wrap them over the top of the paint, and then give them a heap more coats in heatproof/paint over the top of the heatwrap.

The headers look like **** after a few weeks anyway.

i had planned to do a 2.25" inch Exhaust with some sort of oval muffler.. the exhaust shop said i could chose by the sound of it on the day..

all i seem to be offered down here is Lukey and Redback...

not much in the way of choice...

any opinions???

I didn't know there were already made exhausts for gen3s???
I had mine made up by Berklee in Coffs harbour.
Cost a bit under $500 with a chrome tip.

there isnt... its a catback custom job by the shop... just letting me chose the muffler on the back depending on how it sounds...

Wouldn't have a clue about the oxygen sensors. But it's not too difficult to do it yourself rather than spending on an exhaust place to swap the headers...
Unless your getting a cat back at the same time...

Ebay it.

Can do better then lukey or redback. They're not bad. Just not good either.
