Today I decided to paint my hazard button black, masked up n painted, stuck it under the heat lamp then 10mins later I come back outside to check on it, its lying on the ground scratched up... Im like WTF??? Birds? Wind?

Anyhow I had to start again, so started sanding it back n I went to deep n found under the grey was actually red, just like the Sti hazard button

Seeing as it was a bit dull I gave it a coat of clear after smoothing out the scratches...

All fitted just need to mark the hazard symbol

but red is so .... noticeable.

How come you scrapped black, just cos it was red underneath the grey?

Quick update well its not really anything but i decided to strip the powdercoat off my rims. Did a bit of research first and found out that your generic paint stripper isnt up to scratch or heathy for stripping powdercoat.. I did however come across this stuff SoyGel http://www.letsclean....au/soygel.html which Shiv was happily able to pick up for me a few weeks back for his area which is of coarse greatly appreciated.

Looks like honey... Best 2 things about it, no odor and is safe to touch with your hands/skin

Posted Image

The shit in action... It only takes about 30mins for it to really work and lift all layers of paint. Once its done its work just grab a paint scraper and the shit just comes straight off. I will try and get a better shot of it work with the next wheel

After hitting it with a scrapper and scotch brite power pad 2000... Back to stock silver finish

Posted Image

Posted Image

There's still some paint here and there which I will go over again but boy does it come off easy...

I have yet to decide whether to just scuff the inside of the rim and paint or totally strip it then paint

Back to the process of my wheels...

Started painting one today with one/two coats. Colour is perfect but finish wasn't the best I need to fix/bog some surface imperfections so I decided to remove the paint...

Apply a thick coat of paint stripper and let it sit for 30-60mins if not longer... The longer the better, u can gauge it by seeing how the paint is reacting... It turns to u rubber like film that will lift..

Then use a scrapper and scotch brite pad to lift the paint off... Ive found Not all of it comes off so u need to give it another coat of stripper... After that wash and clean with some degreaser then soapy water... Any imperfections will be covered up with some body filler then sand down some primer then paint

lol the soygel makers claim it will go through multiple layers of paint, apparently 7. yeahh right..

So how are you/have you gone about painting them? Using a compressor and gun? (as opposed to can :) )

Soygel was never really ment to be used on powdercoat but I spoke to they rep and he said it can be used but it wont strip the paint as easy...

Still gonna hit it with a can... Its all about the prep work and thin layers

oh i see, well it definitely does the job in the end!

mmm i was going to go DIY with can too, are you using a 'gloss' colour?

Also, i was wondering, how much did you pick up that vinyl wrap for? Is it suitable for exterior use? And any idea if it'd come off nicely without leaving damaging shit all over the paint underneath down the track?

cheers chris

I love the metallic charcoal colour. I also have both the regular and hi-temp cans :)

Used it on a few things and it really shines in the sun!
