HI guys,

i just had the old girl serviced. did the 250k service, timing belt included.

before it went in it was hard to start, and i thought it would be better after a major service like that...

i even bought a new battery at subaru's recommendation.

any idea as to why i might be having this issue? and if subaru did a full service like that it should kick over without any issues yeah??

also... a few months ago it would randomly not kick over at all... make a tick noise when you turn the key, but nothing else... then after a few tries it would fire... now this has also started too...

any advice or a direction to head down to rectify would be cool

Thanks again guys

Jon.

I'm no mechanic, but the tick sounds similar to what my old subi was doing, i fixed it be replacing the terminal connection on the battery, the old one was too loose and not making a full connection.

Sounds to me like your starter motor is long in the tooth, and could probably do with some love.

Take it to an auto electrician, and get him to have a look at it.

Ive had the same issue in a previous car long ago.

The starter switch in the ignition barrel was making a poor contact and the high resistance wasnt letting enough current through to kick over the starter motor solenoid. It would just click.

Put a relay in and used the ignition to switch the relay and the relay contacts switched direct battery power to the starter.

Issue solved for me.

Check fuel pressure when cold and car has been sitting for half a day
