After getting my opens and buying a newer car, upgraded from a gen3 liberty to a 04 wrx ive been having some awesome fun in the wrx, got to love boooost!! I had been tossing around the idea of doing the occasional track day with it, time attack or hill climb events but due to not wanting to get my "pretty" car damaged i decided it was to time to start a new project and keep the wrx as my daily (with some nice little mods as well, still got to finish it off)
so after scouring the interwebz for a project racecar i had the hard decision of what to get, Nissan S chassis? BA ford falcon? EG civic (just noticed that "civic" is "civic" spelt backwards *mindblown*) But of course my heart lead me back home to a Subaru then i had to pick what model, after a little waiting i found a RS Liberty that i had to have and got it for a steal as well, so that starts this little story on a very positive note :)

So whats planned for it? (not in order, more a brain dump to make sure i had it somewhere safe, its literally saved on my desktop by the name of "racecar" :P )

  • PPG gearbox
  • Weight reduction
    • Remove rear seats
    • Remove spare tire
    • Remove air-conditioning
    • Remove sound deadening
    • Strip and rewire the loom (only essentials left)
    • Remove all carpets and luxury items
  • Relocate Battery to boot + lighter battery
  • Upgrade fuel pump
  • Remove tail lights. Cut a sheet of carbon fibre to suit the tail light hole and add a couple of small led brake lights to the carbon
  • Remove heater core and all cabin air-conditioning
  • Racing seats, (sparco or brides)
  • Remove rearbar reo support
  • Alloy radiator
  • Clutch
  • New rims and tires
  • Strip and repaint car (black roof and gold/champagne body)
  • Rewire AC fan to new switch for constant flow
  • Remove cruise control
  • Straight thru exhaust
  • Surge tank
  • Locate wing, maybe wrx wing (wana see how that looks) (no longer want a wing)
  • Upgrade brakes to 4pot fronts and 2 pot rears
  • Coilovers
  • Braided brake lines
  • Bee.r rev limited (flame on!)
  • Roll cage

EDIT: Its good to see a lot has been striked thru now :)

Not even an hour after getting the car home it had coilovers under it and within 24 hours it had 4 pot fronts on it :)
Enough text heres some pics :)

Homebound from the Sunshine Coast

Straight home and into the garage for work to be done

Scored one with a very stealth front mount, but will be replacing the intercooler soon due to it not being in the best condition

Coilovers installed, havnt touched the height, will be raising back up a touch :)

My wrx feeling a bit "out in the weather" :P (it usually gets the garage)

Thanks for reading, ill be keeping this updated as i go hopefully it will come along quickly :)

Hey mate. I think I remember seeing this go recently - and if I remember it was for an absolute steal!

Looks like it has got a Jason M pipe (resonator delete) on the intake as well, good bit of kit that.

Gotta love nugget project Liberty's :)

Ive got G4 racing coilovers in it currently, going to save and replace with BC ER's as they were out of my wrx and seen some millage, just had to get rid of boaty stock suspension quickly.
It looks like it has once been a very loved Subi, its definately seen better days, needs a cv, drivers side ball joint and a few other little bits and pieces but mechanically its perfect, recently rebuilt engine by sunspares in yandina and it pulls just has hard as my wrx :)

I look forward to your progress.

It wont be staying that colour for long, so no twin racing Lib's but there can be sisters :P and do you have a build thread for yours?

Would anyone know what the paint code for this is, oh and this is the beast that started my love obsession with subaru's :)

Might as well show the old girl off :P

This vid was done when i was very young so please excuse the childish me :P and dont worry ive come a long way since then and are onto my forth subi :)

My guess would be one of these three options
- Maple Beige 748
- Spice Brown 749
- Champagne Gold 764

Each number represent the paint code apparently

Seeing that it'll be a track pig*, I'd be either leaving it as is, or painting it the cheapest paint possible. (acrylic white/matt black/etc)

It's going to be seeing barriers, other cars, and various obstacles, and dare I say, it won't exactly look factory flawless. I would be personally concentrating more on engine/brake/suspension work, rather than painting it something nostalgic to you.

*tank slappers ahoy!

Yea very very true, those things didnt really cross my mind :) as the car is now i just need suspension work, bushes, new coilovers, semi slicks, front cv (drivers side) and a lower ball joint, everything mechanically is great with the car, altho it desperately needs a boost controller as it spikes to 11 - 12 and then settles at 9psi

so did some work on the rs today, started doing the weight reduction, removing the sound deadening and other weighty items aircon and such.

put some lower wrx suspension in and roll the guards to fit, definitely not the height i want, its to low. but the old gear out of my wrx it still sits nicely.

maxed out the camber on the fronts and adjusted the brakes, got a busted brake booster atm :( also touched up so minor rust spots under the rear window (only rust on the car)

now a little question time, what coilovers should i be getting for track use and what spring rates should i be getting as well.
