Checked my tyres today and I 2 have bald inside edges :(
I'm not sure if I should just replace the tyres or get all new wheels. My mate did this quick photo shop with some Grid's and I think it could look alright (minus the stupid sticker.)

I was on my way to Uni this morning and I noticed quite a loud whine coming from underneath me.
The noise is still there when rolling in neutral but seems to go away when accelerating pretty hard.

Would changing the diff oil help this at all or should I be taking it to a specialist to look at?

Sounds like a diff.

Changing the oil won't get rid of a sound, Sadly.

How loud are we talking?

I thought it would be a diff, glad I didn't go and buy new diff oil today then.

Below 60 its pretty quiet but once you go over that it gets pretty loud.

Is there anyway to tell if its the front or centre diff?

no play in any wheel bearings?

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

How would I tell if the bearing has play?

I'll just take it to a mechanic on Friday and see what they say, until then it can just live in the garage.

Hopefully it won't cost a fortune to fix so I can buy new wheels.

I have been doing a heap of research this morning and it seems that my random clunk when turning sharp to park and a whining noise is probably a centre diff problem.

Taking it to Ichiban on Friday for them to check out and hopefully diagnose and fix :)

Thanks heaps to Ben for his time.

It is pretty serious though. Centre diff is ruined and the front and rear diff's might also be damaged.

I can either put in a new centre diff and hope for the best or replace the whole box. Decisions, decisions.

Hey Josh do you know what ratios your diffs are? They stock?

Luke has an R180 4.44 rear diff and an 07 5sp gearbag for sale in this thread.

Hi mate. They are the stock 4.44.

I have found a new centre diff that is pretty cheap. I'll hopefully get it installed during the week but if that doesn't fix it I will hit be asking him about his gearbox.

Thanks for the heads up.

I decided against new wheels and instead bought some new Potenza RE002's this morning. I am amazed by how much better they are than my old Eagle F1's.

My new centre diff still hasn't arrived from QLD after 2 weeks :( Fingers crossed it arrive next week.

I also played around with the coil overs a bit to get the car sitting nice and flat. Lifted the rear and dropped the front.

My centre diff has finally arrived after being lost for weeks  :yahoo:  so i need to get that installed next week.

I am thinking of buying the VF30 vicelore is selling. But I am not 100% sure. I need to be convinced if it is a good idea or not..

i was very tempted to buy that when i had mine. not putting shit on his add the only thing that put me off buying it was the fact his engine was a screwed and the gearbox now seems screwed too and chances are its had a very hard life previously.
