Alright, I promised I'd write up a build topic when I bought my Liberty so here it is. It will now officially become a work in progress.

Reason I got the car? I blew the engine in my VS Bombodore and was in desperate need of a new vee-hicle. I managed to get the car quite cheaply with only 123,123 km (I know right) on the clock from a wonderful family out at Turramurra. After a little under two weeks of owning it, I can honestly say I'm in LOVE. It is the best car I've ever owned and has met my every need. I can't wait to join the bandwagon and start adding some mods and giving it my own sweet taste. Didn't particularly like the colour to begin with, but after seeing it in real life I kinda fell for it. And to those that posted in the topics I wrote when I was looking for a Liberty; well, YES. It is a wagon!

Engine Bay & Driveline:

Tyres, Brakes & Suspension:

Interior:

  • Leather
  • 3-spoke Momo leather steering wheel
  • 8-way power adjustable front seats
  • Double sunroof
  • 13-speaker McIntosh sound system
  • Genuine cargo tray (low dish)
  • Wiped and/or vacuumed weekly

Exterior:

Planned:

  • Full exhaust system
  • New number plates (TBA)
  • Fix driver's side foglight
  • Fix dents, scratches and get a professional buff/detail
  • Remove stupid sticker from rear window at windscreen wiper
  • Remove roof rack supports (bolts burred, gotta drill them out; two down, two to go)
  • Engine bay STi strut brace
  • Corazon or Zero/Sports grille
  • Gialla or Hanabi taillights
  • Resonator/muffler delete
  • 4300-5000K globes (Philips Diamond Vision) for low beams
  • Philips X-tremeVision for high beams
  • LED lighting all round
  • STi front lip
  • STi oil filler cap
  • STi radiator cap
  • STi shift knob
  • STi wheel nut set (blue) and/or security wheel nut set
  • STi rims (in either that colour or this one)
  • Tune
  • Hawk Performance Ceramic brake pads
  • GT or Outback bonnet (for more HP)
  • STi rear trailing arms
  • 20-30% tints
  • Genuine cargo tray (low dish)

May be:

  • Slimline monsoons
  • Lightweight pulleys
  • Scuff plates

Enough said? Not really I know, but I am all ears for some modifications that can be done to either improve handling, performance or to make it so fast that The Flash will have a hard time keeping up (jokes). Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. I'll pay you in beer.

Here are some pics of her a week after the purchase.

Thanks guys! I'll try my best to keep the topic up to date as I continue doing things to this beast. In the meantime I am gonna try and give her a name... Suggestions welcome.

The other place to look would be Cruisn's build thread. That car of his looks awesome. That should give you plenty of ideas. Basically suspension and wheels, exterior bits and pieces, and some small things interior wise. Brakes, Scuff plates, lip spoilers, slim line monsoons, etc. Even a set of lightweight pulleys for the motor - just reduces the rotating mass, which has the effect of letting it rev a bit more freely. Lots of things out there dude, do some looking around at other threads to start with.

Even a tune of the engine will help a bit. Nowhere near the gains to be had compared to turbo, but your goal would be better drivability and fuel consumption moreso than power on a 6.

Cheers,
Ben

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.

Hi,

Fantastic spec, mate. Truly awesome.

Fix up that grille first! Some updated tail lights would go well, maybe even smoked with that great deep blue.

Cheers,
Nik

Lovely looking car mate.

But, PLEASE POLISH THAT RHF foglight! :P

and tuck that negative battery lead under the bracket so it isn't rubbing.

Thanks hoff, much appreciated.

Just took a look. He does have a nice ride to be honest. I really do want to get an STI lip. How much are original ones worth? I've had a look at the Ultrex site and they have this one for $300. Does this one fit on a MY06 though (I know it says MY07+ but I didn't think there was much of a difference between the models)? I'd definitely like to get some black STI rims. I reckon it'd go schmick with the blue... Brakes are a definite but I just have to find out what the better ones to go for would be. Any suggestions? I don't do cheapy crap that'll last a couple of months. I plan on keeping the car for a while and am willing to pay that bit extra to get quality products. Lightweight pulleys sounds like a nice idea too, good thinking. Any little bit helps in my opinion.

How much are tunes? Never done this sorta thing before so I appreciate the patience guys. Drivability and fuel consumption... Like I said, any bit helps! Thanks mate.

Thank you very much skillionaire. I was really happy after the purchase, I was just spewing I couldn't come meet the boys at the December meet the other day to show it off. Fix up the grille? Do you mean replace it or spray it like CRUISN's done? Will look into the taillights, and a smokey effect wouldn't go astray either!

Ha ha, believe me it bugs me as well as mentioned in the 'planned' list. I remember reading a topic about how to clean them, it was for a headlight if I'm not mistaken. I'll try having a search before asking for links. That battery lead was like that when purchased but will definitely tuck it in the right place in the morning.

Thanks for all the positive feedback boys! Much appreciated. Glad to have made such a great decision in purchasing her. I look forward to hearing from more of you.

Hi,

My grille is a CRUISN spec... :)

I love it. Imgur is hating on me right now, but I'll flick a pic tomorrow.

Nik

The chrome bit sprayed in a matte black or something?

I'm really liking the Hanabi taillights, but after checking out CRUISN's topic, he says the Gialla ones are better quality. I'll have to see which one I prefer. They are both looking decent.

Anyone able to provide me with some links to trustworthy and quality sites/places I can purchase things like this? From accessories to engine parts and what not?

I reckon go a mesh grille like hoff's. You should be able to pick up an STi lip off IM cheaply.

I must admit I don't like the fact of spraying an original grille, but it does look nice. I like the mesh style as well.

IM = ?

Speak to Michael at Garage88 if you want to buy parts brand new.

For second hand parts come join us at club.liberty.asn plenty of gen4 parts for sale

For a tune I would recommend a tune from Matt from Kido tuning (aka throttle happy) I've had one of his tunes for about 8months now. Drive ability improved out of site.

Ah right, just the one I like then.

Thanks for the kind comments Mitch. and AussieTemplar! I'm happy to have found a keeper.

It is nice, but I assume it's sprayed in a matte black finish, right Richo?

I've got an account there already hoff, I just haven't been anywhere as active as I have been here at SubyClub. I'll definitely have a look around to see if I can pick up a few essentials though. Thanks for the referrals also. Glad to have gained so much help from everyone. It's put a smile on my face. :)
