I remember I got the really 'race spec' Bendix pads, right at the start of winter, for the B4. The next morning as I drove down the hill towards the intersection on the corner of my property, it was probably about 4/5 degrees, applied the brakes and NOTHING happened. I just sailed straight through the blind intersection and took another couple of hundred metres to stop! Had no idea that they needed to be properly warmed up!!! Freaked me out as a milk truck came past a minute or so later.

I found mine to have plenty of torque when I towed my cousin's boat... But mine is auto. Don't know if that would make a major difference.

Plenty of power but NO TORQUE.
I must have shuffled between 4th, 5th and 6th a million times. Doesn't get pushed around as much as much as the Commodore but the trailer is not full so it only weighs about 600kg instead of about 800kg.

I picked up ten bags of potting mix on Thursday, and it pretty much sucked the car dry of any grunt.

That is definitely a shit bricks moment...

The Premium Ultras available at Supercheap claim to have a 'titanium stripe that provides instant friction from the moment you put your foot on the brake pedal'.

Sorry, they were EBC something something's - not Bendix. I 'downgraded' to the green ones, and even they needed a bit of a 'warm up lap' before confidence was 100%.

Fuckin' stopped like crazy once they were though.

Which is something I don't want. I'd rather spend money on the pads then the discs as advised by Pete on page 357.

Auto makes a huge difference.
The torque converter can multiply the engines torque by up to 3 times while running below 'coupling point' or about 2000rpm.

Mine pulls it OK but you need to keep the engine north of 3500 rpm, at that engine speed it sucks fuel like a mofo. If the road is dead flat it's happy at 110kph in 6th.

Pulls hard in 6th......

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Ah ok, fair enough. I assumed that'd be the issue.

Auto makes a huge difference.

Still reckon it's one of the best 5-spd autos out there. The difference between my car, and the Forester is night and day, and my beast is five years older!
